It seemed that her words had broken through Oliver’s hard skin because his jaw tightened, his fingers flexed as if he was about to read for a bow. However, being out in public right now, there was no quiver strapped to his back. “And I led with a guilty conscious every day. That’s the difference between us — you have no guilt.”

The accusation that she doesn’t feel guilt flared anger through her features, though something in her eyes was almost pained, as though a recently healed wound had been painfully reopened at his words. Guilt is something she's been familiar with for longer than she cares to remember, even if some aspects of the memory are blurry now. I should never have let myself get caught, I shouldn't have mattered enough for you to come for me, I should have been the one who died. 

It took a couple of moments for her to calm back the rage burning through her and the voice that plagued her nightmares hissing accusations at her, the desire to slam him through a wall more than tempting.

”You know nothing about what goes on in my head.”

❝ Uh— um I really don’t think      that is necessary.  Like, in      the grand scheme of things,      how am I an asset, right ?       And maybe I am just trying      to babble my way out of this,      but— gulp. ❞

”Oh, relax Blondie, I’ve got no intentions of doing anything to harm a hair on that pretty little head of yours. I've got no desire to be repeating that night at Queen Consolidated.”

At the sudden soft expression, Oliver was confused for a moment. She had compassion? “No, it has nothing to do with a child hood pet but rather friends, myself, and others you’ve hurt and killed in this city.”

“Wow, someone doesn’t understand sarcasm,” Vertigo remarked dryly, “Out of the two of us, Arrow, I’m not the only one who’s killed. I’ve got the scars to prove it. And I'm pretty sure there's a few innocents who've been caught in your crossfire.”

"The funny thing is you just hit the tip of the iceberg. It goes a lot deeper than that, Vertigo."

"Don't tell me I killed your beloved childhood pet," for a moment, her expression was almost upset, but it didn't last long, "I don't know how I could possibly live with myself."

"Are we really going to play this game? I can make a mile long list on why that was justified."

"Because I nearly killed your cute little blonde friend and had the entire city to ransom. I figure that's probably what you like to tell yourself at night to justify reneging on your little 'no killing' rule."

"That’s half of what you deserved."

"Ah yes, because shooting me three times in the chest and out of a skyscraper was clearly the normal thing to do."
