AU, drabble; Zelda’s a Sheikah and Link’s a Gerudo vai.

The ache in Zelda’s head was like nothing she’d felt before. Not once during her Sheikah training had she ever felt so dizzy and mentally disorganized; not even when she’d accidentally been thrown into a wall and recieved a nasty concussion.
No. This was an entirely new level of pain.
But just as she was starting to stir, she heard a voice, and though she was sure it would be lovely outside of the current context, it grated on her sensitive ears.
“Stay on your back,” a young woman said, with a rough accent, as though her voice wasn’t often used. “There is no need to get up.”
Zelda furrowed her brows, then slowly cracked open her eyes. The light stung, and though she could make out her immediate surroundings, it was painful, and she couldn’t focus or make sense of it. Why was it so light out, she wondered. It had been late evening just moments ago... More than her confusion, though, she was aware of the pain she was in, and the bone-weary exhaustion all throughout her body. Even worse, her lips were chapped and bleeding, and her dry throat didn’t feel much better. Still, she tried to speak. “...Who,” she started, then painfully swallowed. “Who are you?”
“Link, of the Gerudo,” the young woman said. Then, she hesitated. “You are... Sheikah? Or Yiga?”
Zelda sounded offended, even through her dry throat. “Sheikah,” she said. Then, after a beat, her vision adjusted to the room around her, and she slowly sat up despite Link’s instructions. This wasn’t any place she knew. Certainly not Kakariko Village, and it was unlikely even to be the Kara Kara Bazaar. “Where am I?”
“Gerudo Town,” Link said. “I will bring water, stay here.”
As Link walked out, Zelda couldn’t help but stare after her. She was short for a Gerudo, yet clearly not a child. And yet... somehow, she had the sense that this woman had helped her, though Zelda remembered little past trekking towards Kara Kara Bazaar, and getting lost in a sandstorm. She doubted anyone but a rescuer would choose to stay beside the person they saved.
This went double, if Link hadn’t known if she was Sheikah or Yiga.
Zelda’s mouth formed a small smile, despite the pain from her chapped lips.
Link, Zelda thought as she laid her head back down against the soft, downy, Gerudo-style pillow. What a pretty name for a Gerudo vai.

I don't think it's exactly disappointment: I think the reveal was perfect, human, like the rest of your story is. If you had made it to be melodramatic it would have felt more rewarding but out of place. The 1 year gap simply accentuated that. So, thank you for sacrificing sensationalism for keeping true to your characters. Just like to Sheik, you gave us what we needed, not what we wanted/expected. Can't wait for what's to come and have a nice day!
Thank you so much!!!! I really needed to read this. I got spoiled with a ton of thoughtful in depth reviews for previous chapters, lol, so I guess I was just a little 3 at how so many of these ones were just “wow youre not dead/ you’re back!!!” type things. ah well.

im working on the next chapter as we speak, and the thought that anyone likes this fic enough to pay for it is plenty of motivation :)
