Dang, y'all. Has it really been ten years since this project? Anybody still out there???
Omg are you doing the fan book thing this year for Richards birthday because he's a perfect ball of sunshine and needs it!!!!!
Ahhhh it’s coming up soon, isn’t it? I’m super busy though, so I’m looking for someone to help helm it. If anybody is interested, and realistically has enough time to dedicate to it (that was MY mistake, taking on more than I could handle), then Yes Please!!!
Hi all!
So, I know I’ve been away from Tumblr/the internet for a while. I miss it! But the good news is that I’m in a far better place than I was about nine months ago. For those who have been following me for a while, you know that I’ve been having financial issues.
Bottom line, I’ve changed my...
Another Thank-You post...reblogging this because some people who donated to the RSJ Birthday Project told me to use the money for myself when times were tough. Also, it’s almost summer, which means it’s almost fall (that logic makes PERFECT sense) so anybody who wants to helm this project should get in contact with me soon! :D
CLICK THIS. NOW.
IF YOU WANT MORE RSJ IN YOUR LIFE, GO TO THE ABOVE LINK. YOU WON’T BE SORRY.
are you by any chance going to make another one for next year? i missed the entry and really wanted to do something for him
I think if it's something that people want, then yes! But I don't think I'll be able to helm it. Because of financial challenges, I will have to teach all summer and that will leave me little time for such a huge project.
BUT! If there are others willing to take charge of this project (and I already have one person interested), then I'd say we've got the go ahead!
Link to view the edited fanbook, and a farewell(?) message to all those who stuck with me:
Here is where you can see what I sent Richard, minus any sensitive letters.
It is a large file size, so you will have to download to view, because Google Drive won't preview files above a certain MB limit.
And, with that post, I bid you all adieu.
Will I do this again?
Probably not...considering that it's my fault that the book was mailed to him SUPER late and I dropped the ball on actually being able to fund this thing by myself and had to resort to donations. A recent college grad and new middle school teacher trying to take on an additional independent project? Yeah, I admit, I bit off more than I could chew. I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for being patient and understanding and making this labor of love possible. <3 <3 <3
BUT! If anybody wants to helm future projects, and use this Tumblr handle to do it, I'd be more than happy to hand it over and/or assist in a minor capacity.
I hope that someday I might get to meet some of you. You. Are. All. Awesome.
Love,
And with that:
The culmination of our hard work. I'm tearin' up over here. T_T
Also, this means that I'll finally be able to share the book pages (minus the sensitive letters) with you all soon, so you can see the wonderful wonderfulness in it's wonder-entierty. :P
PS: I showed this photo to my middle school students during class and the first thing they said was "WHY IS HE HOLDING A PIZZA?" *facepalm* (I love my job)
PPS: CRINKLY-EYED RICHARD IS MY FAVE <3
I'M AT WORK RIGHT NOW DOING TEACHER STUFF BUT I CAN CONFIRM THAT RICHARD GOT THE BIRTHDAY BOOK.
In the words of crhiscornell, THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
So, maybe he'll see it soon? *crosses fingers*
Did you ever get the book to him?
According to my UPS tracking receipt, yes! It was accepted at reception by a mysterious figure named McMahon. Sounds legit. :P
Did you ever end up getting the book to RicH?
Yes! Hopefully he'll post a pic so we all know he got it? Keep your eyes peeled. Ironically, I'll probably be the last to know if he does do something like that. *goes back into hiatus mode*
So, I was curious what ever happened with this. Did it get sent?
Yes it did! Sorry to keep you in agonizing suspense. I have nothing but poor excuses and meaningless diverting phrases like "time got away from me".
To assuage you, I can assure you that the book came out about a million times more shiny and awesome than I would have ever expected going into this.
Hey there :) How'd you go with getting the book sent off? Did you ever manage to track down Rich's address?
Yes! It got sent out!
And I know my last post like, two months ago said, "Pics coming soon!"
Just so you know, soon in my book is apparently, well, two months.
I'm a terrible fangirl. A devout fangirl (despite all evidence to the contrary), but a terrible one.
(PS- yes, I realize that I am answering this inbox message about two months late too. Feel free to pelt me with imaginary rotten tomatoes. A more formal apology to all of you will be forthcoming once I have some time to sit down and write it out since I always agonize over those sorts of things)
THE BOOK CAME! THE BOOK CAME! AND IT'S FUCKING BEAUTIFUL!!!
I literally was just at work doing lesson planning and grading until now, so it's really much too late to take and post photos tonight...I promise it will happen soon, though! <3
So...what is Richard Speight's address?
I tried Google-ing it but got a couple of different results (in particular, different agencies are listed for him). T_T Should I try tweeting at him? Could you all try tweeting at him? HALP.
ilovestarkidtoomuch, no, you're probably thinking of the birthday project that iamthetwickster is doing??? I have no monies for conventions. T_T

Dear Fans,
The project is finished. All that's left to do is wait for the finished product to ship to me, at which point I will ship it to Mr. Speight. As you can see, we raised more money than was needed for publishing and shipping. Once I take out the shipping costs to Richard's office, the leftover will be sent in a check for him to donate to whichever charity he chooses.
(By the way, does anybody know exactly what his address is? That might've been a good thing to research beforehand...)
I don't know about you, but this has been an amazing journey for me. When I began this project, it was born out of a concern that any letter I could send RSJ would be boring and trite. Unlike so many of you, I had no artistic talent or story to tell. RSJ did not save my life, but I admired the man so much that I had to do something. And thus, I called upon you to assist me in wishing this man the happiest birthday we could muster. And you answered the call in resounding numbers.
Your letters were so moving. Your art was so wonderful. I cried while compiling this book. I laughed. And when I was struggling to see this through til the end, you rallied around me in support I won't soon forget.
Maybe I'll do this again next year. Only time will tell. But if I do come back, keep an eye out on this blog. This is where the magic will happen. :D
Thank you again, everyone, from the very bottom of my heart.
With love,
Kate (kittyinabeaker.tumblr.com)
PS: I will photograph the book and post photos for you all to see right before I ship it out.
