Ok y’know what yeah I’m mad about this. I’m mad that people are being so fucking hateful towards the Watcher crew over this, like they owe you something. I’m mad that people are apparently dogpiling on Steven as if Ryan and Shane have no say in a company that the three of them made together as friends. I’m mad that people are acting like Watcher is now the same as Netflix or Spotify when password sharing is being actively encouraged and not everything is being locked behind the paywall - not to mention that watcher has a staff of less than 30 people at this point. I’m mad that there are actually people who want this to FAIL. I’m mad that you all seem to think art should be free. What is wrong with all of you? Being a little disappointed or frustrated is obviously okay, but some of the stuff some of you guys are saying is straight up wicked, racist, and unnecessary. Grow up, touch grass, and remind yourselves that the universe doesn’t revolve around you. There are more important things to be this upset about, so try to use your energy on those things instead, you fucking toddlers.

I said this in a comment earlier and I just wanted to put this in a post because I think it’s important:

Watcher is still a fledgling company, and unfortunately they are also just people, and people mistakes and poor decisions. I agree that the way this was handled was poor and all honesty I expect to see A LOT of updates from them regarding their streaming site since there’s a lot of information they didn’t cover.

I get that it sucks to have to pay for things and I was bummed initially but then I really thought about it and I was like wouldn’t it be beautiful to see their shows go up a notch? To see more episodes per season, to see them add even MORE creators and not just ex-buzzfeed producers? That is not a knock on Andrew and Adam by the way, I’m excited to watch Travel Season. But wouldn’t you like to see them hire POC and queer creators that are no longer bound by YouTube’s racist and suppressive policies? Wouldn’t that be wonderful? I think that’s worth something, isn’t it? I think it’s worth a chance.

And if the subscription price is the issue, I know many of us that can pay are willing to share so we can all still enjoy their shows.

Making the staff at Watcher the supervillains is not acceptable. This is especially true regarding Steven and Ryan, because it is becoming disturbingly obvious the kind of hateful and insidious racial biases some of you have. It’s not going to get you what you want, and you’re only going to hurt the company you were once so crazy about.

The way you change your immediate reactions to things is that you catch yourself having an uncharitable/bigoted/overly judgmental thought and you catch it and replace it and then you do that a hundred times a day for your whole life and eventually one day like five years later you realize that you think differently now and you’ll always be working on something but that’s how life goes and that’s fine.

Say you have a bad habit of thinking all other people are stupider than you and want to respect other people’s intelligence more.

So you start paying attention to your immediate first reactions to things. You notice that when other people around you are struggling with a math problem and ask you for help you default to seeing them as annoying and stupid.

Instead of chastising yourself for having that thought, interrogate it. Replace it. Think, why do I assume people with different strengths are dumber than I am? I need help sometimes too. I’m glad they’re comfortable enough with me to ask me for help. I’m glad I’ve got a reputation of being the math guy and can help people with that.

And the first time, perhaps the first few dozen times, it’ll feel disingenuous. The cynicism in your brain will fight it. But in time it’ll become as easy as breathing. First thought, replace thought.

And then one day you don’t need to replace that thought. That might be a month from now or twenty years from now. And it’s annoying to get there. But you do get there.

very special to me that every critic has panned lisa frankenstein while every bitch on tumblr is like "this movie was made specifically for ME"

I love how everyone who saw the Lisa Frankenstein trailer and loved it immediately thought "this movie was made for ME" and you know what? We were right, guys

wild how like PCOS, endometriosis, vaginismus & hell, even frequent yeast infections are “mysterious” with no well known cause and little to no decent treatment, but we have tons of supposedly well researched body fat removal methods, about 20 different kinds of breast implants, laser hair removal, and 100 different dermatologist recommended anti aging creams. we sure had the money and brainpower to cure those “diseases”

good thing i'm not a film critic as i'm grotesquely inclined to call any film where an off-putting young murderess gets her happily-ever-after with a handsome, worm-ridden corpseman "movie of the year"

it goes against so much of what i stand for to share "palestinians are humans, they have hobbies, they have pets, they laugh and cry" kind of posts because i've spent so much of my life and career completely rejecting the notion that we should humanize ourselves, that we should ever be defensive, that we should entertain this racism at all

but it breaks my heart when i have to share them from people in gaza, who are using their five minutes of internet connection, their 25% of battery charge collected from a macguyvered car battery, emotionally exhausted, thirsty and hungry, sleeping in schools that have turned into refugee shelters and still making the time to say "please, i am human too, i am still alive, please fight for me" in english to appeal to the only people who have the power to help

i shared a tweet from a jjk artist in gaza i follow about a bts photocard being found in the middle of the rubble. even the love of anime and kpop and sports is no longer just a hobby, but an appeal to humanity. what was once a source of joy is now proof of life.

the worst part is that you won't find this content in arabic. palestinians don't post like this in arabic. but when they translate themselves, they recognize that they must humanize themselves first. it's an unspoken understanding of dehumanization, one that has dictated a whole region's understanding of the value of human life. in arabic they speak with dignity, with anger, with sorrow. in english, they appeal for their existence.

i share these posts not just because we have to reach everyone we can, because im being asked to and i will not refuse. but i also share them because they're evidence of how deep the racism has run. at what dehumanization leads to. of war crime after war crime. this too i will not forget.

I've seen a lot of people critiquing Lisa and the Creature because their murders are unjustified and petty therefore THEY'RE TERRIBLE CHARACTERS

1) It's a slasher comedy. You're supposed to suspend your disbelief... they're the villains, the story is just told from their perspective

2)"How could the audience ever root for these people?" Lisa is a traumatized girl who had to deal with an axe murderer killing her mother. The real horror of that event isn't even the trauma she experienced. It's how she was treated afterwards that's mind-boggling. Nobody bothered to help her out and she was systemtically punished for not fitting in- which is the reality of many mentally unstable/disabled/traumatized people.

Lisa's struggle is very relatable, she just acts the ultimate fantasy out: she actively kills/is complicit in the murder of those who failed her (and, very symbolically, she often kills them with an axe, the weapon used to kill her mother)

She emotionally relies on the only person who actually cared for her and took time to understand her: the creature.

Are her actions justified? Of course not. None of those people deserved death. It's a revenge fantasy movie. The real victim is Taffy, who inherits Lisa's trauma and grief after her own mother gets murdered. Lisa perpetuates this horrible cycle of abuse, BECAUSE NO ONE CARED TO HELP HER. The world's apathy is the ultimate villain.

I still root and empathize with Lisa because I get it. Bro, I've been abused. When your trauma gets brushed off as an inconvenience by the people who are supposed to cherish you and protect you, you start to understand Lisa's actions.

But as always, the reading comprehension on this site is piss poor. (I DONT PISS ON THE POOR!!!)

Also big W for the diy bottom surgery and death is temporary love is forever. ♡
