dead things

@somedeadthings / somedeadthings.tumblr.com

We appreciate the beauty in dead things. Note: if you are not comfortable, or you disagree with any of these things, don't look or comment. This blog isn't about fashion, or looking "cool", it's about appreciating the animal, even though it is now deceased - which different people do through different ways, be it skulls, pelts, soft mounts or headdresses. Disclaimer: unless tagged "mine" none of the animals posted are mine.

Here's a new plate of some recent creek finds!

We're finally getting some decent rains again so the creek has started flooding a bit more. It's always so exciting to see what will be uncovered each time! Some of these latest finds include a lovely old milk glass salt shaker, deer teeth, rabbit vertebrae, loads of beautiful fossils include crinoids, brachiopods, horn coral, and bryzoans, tumbled bits of old glass and pottery, a rock that looks like a duck head, handle from an old porcelain toy teacup, hagstones, and more!

And we got another special secret find—

a little piece of uranium glass!

Despite being winter, it’s still not typical penguin weather here in London. Luckily, this little jackass penguin is from walmer climes. They live in South African waters and got their name due to the loud honking noise they make!

This specimen, may become part of a new permanent display as we will soon begin dismantling our current Natural History Gallery.

Dental Plaque!

This collage of real animal teeth affixed to a wooden plaque would make a great one-of-a-kind gift for any fan of odd things in your life. Or a nice treat for your own rad self!

This is probably the last one of these I'll be making for a while. I'm nearly out of tiny teefs!
