Reiko stumbled as the bus jerked to a stop and she swore under her breath at the flash of pain that accompanied her foot slamming down to keep her upright.

She noticed Dingo also barely keeping himself standing and opened her mouth, about to voice her concern, but he had already recovered and left. She pursed her lips and followed suit, allowing herself a moment to rest as the bus pulled away.

“We’re only about a block and a half away from the bus, thankfully. Of course, the train station isn’t too far either, so that’s pretty cool.”

She headed down the block, keeping her normal, subdued pace. “Also, just because you have more experience doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll beat Netto… As dumb as he is, he picks up on video games and all that internet stuff super quickly.”

Reiko could hardly believe she was defending her cousin–not after they spent so much time constantly bickering. But her words weren’t a lie–Netto did have his talents.

She rounded the corner and pointed at the unassuming white house at the end of the block. On its left was a pink house, and on its right was another smaller street. “That’s it over there.”

Dingo quickly stuffed his free, bandaged hand back in his pocket, suppressing a wince at the dull ache that coursed through his wrist. He gave a shrug in reply to Reiko’s words, certainy not letting himself be impressed : “We’ll see about that ! He can’t win against me !”

A grin lingered on Dingo’s traits at the small insult to Reiko’s cousin - it was always amusing, and a little reassuring to hear others bicker. As much as the boy couldn’t help antagonizing his Navi all the time, he still felt a little bad about it, deep down.

The boy then kept quiet, while they made their way to Netto’s house. The surroundings did seem familiar - Dingo had already been there on deliveries, since it was a residential area, where many people were prone to order takeout. Netto was usually one to visit MaHa Ichiban in person, but Dingo could recall a few times when he’d come to deliver curry - probably when Netto was sick, and relied on curry to cheer himself up a bit.

While he walked a few steps ahead of Reiko, Dingo sensed a feeling of unease well up at the bottom of his stomach. He wasn’t ready to be babied by Netto’s mom, or to face his friend’s neverending enthusiasm. Even Tomahawkman ha had the decency to tone it down a little, in the past few weeks.

“Are you sure I won’t be bothering ?” The boy asked, with uncharacteristical uncertainty. He gave Reiko a quick glance over his shoulder, and waited for the girl to knock at the door herself - or maybe she was going to enter without even announcing her arrival. This was her home, after all.

Reiko smiled in response to Dingo’s confidence. The next couple of hours would certainly be interesting with her cousin and this brash teen battling it out.

However, as she walked up to the door and pulled out her key, she paused at Dingo’s quiet question. He looked uneasy and she bit her lip. “Of course it’s no problem, Oba-chan invited you.”

Maybe... She decided to throw caution to the wind and just go for the jibe, hoping it would lighten his mood--or at least make him annoyed enough to forget his anxiety. “Why? Is the great Dingo scared of a little TLC?”

Reiko offered Tomahawkman a smile. “Y-yeah, you’re right.”

She brightened up a little. “Maybe I’ll be able to get into music someday… I think that would be pretty cool.”

The girl blinked as the bus made a turn. “Uwah, here’s our stop!” She pressed the button signaling the driver to let them off at the corner and prepared to hobble to her feet. “I hope you’re ready to game, Dingo…. Cuz you know Netto’s not going to go easy on you!”

“That would be awesome !” Tomahawkman could only reply, before Reiko’s next exclamation directed the topic of the conversation away. Dingo headed for  the door, with both hands buried in his pockets, and braced himself for the bus’ braking.

“D’you think I’ll be going easy on him ? I’m gonna crush him ! I’m sure I’ve got plenty more of experience than he does !” This might not be a lie, even though Dingo only owned his console since a couple years. the amount of free time he wasted playing was quiet concerning.

When the bus came to an abrupt stop, Dingo had to fling out his arm - unfortunately, his bad one - to grab the nearest seat, and only just managed not to fall by some miracle. He quickly pretended that nothing had happened and headed for the dooor, from which he hopped down. He then waited for Reiko to get out and lead the way -the surroundings were only vaguely familiar to him.

Reiko stumbled as the bus jerked to a stop and she swore under her breath at the flash of pain that accompanied her foot slamming down to keep her upright.

We actually did that to a human a while back, heck we turned the dude's Navi into a human just to unleash Prankmageddon.

Reiko blinked her eyes wide. “All... Just for a prank? That’s...” She scratched her head. “That’s pretty extreme, don’t you think?”

“But... I guess if he was okay, then no harm done...?” She wasn’t really sure herself, if she was being honest.

Or an anon such as myself magicked them

(assuming they are referring to the human to navi post i made)

Reiko made a face. “Magic? That... that sounds kinda scary and not very reliable. I mean... I’m all for fantasy and stuff... And maybe it’s the science side of me talking, but I’d be much more secure if I had accurate data and precise calculations when putting my body and mind on the line...”

“Unless... you’re some kind of super magician!!!!” Her eyes went wide.

Reiko paused. She hadn’t really thought about becoming a scientist before. She was just kind of taking things day-by-day, focused on getting through her parents’ research. But then once that was done…

What would she do?

Perhaps she should pursue a life of science, just like her parents and uncle. But…

“I… I dunno. Science and medical research… That’s all my parents’ stuff. I just wanted to see it through. But I’m not sure I want to do that with my life…” Reiko’s tone was quiet and she bit her lip.

Would she be disappointing her parents like this? What would they have wanted her to do? She had never gotten the opportunity to find out.

“I just… I dunno.”

Upon hearing Reiko’s doubts, Dingo felt a little comforted that he wasn’t as hopeless as Tomahawkman made it seem. He wasn’t certain about the girl’s age, but guessed that she was a bit older than he was ; and if she didn’t know what to do with her future, ten there was no rush for him to know as well.

“It was just a suggestion !” Tomahawkman quickly replied, immediately regretting to have brought up such a topic. “Nobody’s asking you to know what you wanna do with your future. Don’t worry about it !”

Of course, Tomahawkman didn’t have this kind of problem. Not only would he never age physically, but he also knew what his future was made of - or at least, what he wanted it to be. He would never leave Dingo’s side.

“You don’t … You don’t have any expectations to fulfil. Just because you’re very involved in scientific stuff right now, doesn’t mean you have to dedicate your life to it. There’s a billion other possibilities ! Just follow the path your heart chooses. Make sure that you’re happy with whatever job you take.”

Reiko offered Tomahawkman a smile. “Y-yeah, you’re right.”

She brightened up a little. “Maybe I’ll be able to get into music someday... I think that would be pretty cool.”

Can you explain how we turned a Human into a Navi and vise versa?

Image

“No, but Doctor Hikari can.”

“U-uh,” The bewildered scientist scanned over the question and frowned. “Well, you see, the entire process involves converting human mass into data. Of course, it takes an immense amount of data compression and complex encryptions to get that amount of data to be stable and in a state to be transferred to the internet...”

Reiko picked up promptly where her uncle left off. “But once the data is transferable, it’s basically downloading the data into a program--in this case, a shell of a Navi, which is like a data version of a Copybot--and voila! You’ve got yourself... Me!”

Yuuichirou scratched the back of his head. “Yes, well... If the anon would like to know more about the specifics of encryptions and the compression techniques... We’ll we’re still attempting to decode them ourselves.”

Reiko nodded. “Yup! Cuz that’s what my parents did and we’re still trying to decode all their research! Aaaaaaanyways... sorry for the intrusion! See you later, Enzan-kun!”

And with that Reiko dragged her uncle back out and with a wave, shut the door.

Reiko let out a quiet sigh of relief as Tomahawkman took it upon himself to fill in the silence.

“Ahaha, actually I don’t… I don’t go to school. All my time in the hospital when I was a kid kinda set me back a couple years, and so my education got all messed up.”

She scratched the back of her head. “I mean, I don’t mind. I might not be very good at history or literature, but I know everything that’s necessary and important to me. Music theory, programming, and all that science-y stuff that I use when I work with Oji-chan.”

“And I guess it helps that when I’m Rhythm, I can just look up information as needed. Netto says it’s cheating, but I believe I’m just utilizing my resources.” She was a little smug, but she hid it well behind a sheepish smile. “You can say I’m fortunate to be so unfortunate.”

Reiko’s answer brought a frown onto the young Navi’s face. No, this definitely wasn’t the best topic he could have found. But at least Reiko seemed to welcome his attempts at small, relaxed talk, so Tomahawkman quickly smiled again and went on.

“Oh, that’s still great ! I guess that not graduating from school can be a little problematic, but if you already have lots of knoweldge in specific things, you’ll be alright ! When it comes to finding a job and all, I mean.” He exclaimed, with a quik, disapproving glance at his operator.

The boy didn’t miss the gesture, and glared back at his Navi : “Hey, I’ll be just fine ! Maybe I don’t go to school either, but I still work a little at home ! Idon’t even know what I wanna do in the future, anyway !”

Tomahawkman shook his head in disapproval, wishing his operator wouldn’t find a way to always be angry. “If you say so … But you should at least think about it. I don’t want you to come crying when you’re 20, unqualified and jobless.” He replied curtly, and quickly addressed Reiko an apologetic glance. “Maybe you can become a scentist like Hikari-hakase later on, Reiko !”

Reiko paused. She hadn’t really thought about becoming a scientist before. She was just kind of taking things day-by-day, focused on getting through her parents’ research. But then once that was done...
