Thank you, lady 🤗

The Nigerian accent. God. She reminds me of home...

Always grateful when this makes the rounds

the japanese “-ne?” particle and the british slang term “innit” serve the same function

Standard English: It’s cold, isn’t it?

Japanese: Samui desu ne?

British: It’s fuckin’ freezin’, innit?

i have to do everything around here

i hate this cause i did japanese for like a year and this explains the use of the -ne particle WAYYYY better than my teachers ever did. it took me ages to comprehend what this post makes abundantly clear.

my teachers: its like a, a little rise at the end of a sentence, to show that you are seeking a response, while not warranting the -ka particle which would make it a proper question.

me: ok. i guess i get that??

this post: its like saying “innit?”

me: oh. oh no.

fun fact: afaik, "-ne" was inherited from the Portuguese settlers/priests that stayed in Japan in the 16th century. It comes from "né?", which the contraction of "não é?", "isn't it?".

It's LITERALLY "innit".

oh so like "eh" in canadian

ok so there’s a game me and my friends play called “don’t get me started” and basically someone gives another person a random topic and they have to go on an angry rant about it and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us at parties and car rides so I highly recommend playing sometimes with your friends

I love this idea. We used to do things like this in Improv.

Related game: “THINK ABOUT IT.” You’re given a random topic, and your job is to build it into an epic conspiracy theory, the crazier the better. You end your rant with a serious face and the command that your listeners “Think about it.”

Another related game: Illuninati. Similar to Think About It except you are given 2 completely different topics and you have to connect them to each other in a wild conspiracy rant

Rb to safe an awkward hang out

me and my friends play “World’s Greatest Expert” where one of the other players says “Hey, I heard you’re the world’s greatest expert on ____” and you have to give an in depth (and probably completely false) lecture about the thing you’re the greatest expert on. Other players are allowed to ask you questions.

The version I learned was ‘Ah Yes’ in which someone gives you a work of art or famous landmark and you go “Ah Yes, the ____” in a posh accent while making up the most wildly inaccurate history of the topic. Bonus points for how hard everyone laughs.

I suppose the design needs a little explanation. LOL. This is an inside joke born from a couple things that happened and made me and my work bestie laugh uncontrollably. It would take too long to tell the whole story, so I'll leave it at that.

She made this as a small patch design and I've always adored it. I am up for a challenge and I am really excited!

Today I worked on outlining the pickets on the fence so that I will be able to put the trees in easier.

Tonight, we remember one who lent his enormous talent to telling the story we have all come to love. Hail, the victorious dead!

May the Simbelmynë cover his tomb as it did the tomb of the one he so accurately portrayed.

Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in 'Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope' (1977), wearing jewellery by Finnish designer Björn Weckström for Lapponia.

The 'Planetoid Valleys' necklace and 'Darina´s Bracelet' were originally parts of Lapponia's 1969 'Space Silver' collection.

George Lucas had seen Weckström's striking silver pieces and wanted to feature them in 'Star Wars'. Costume designer John Mollo bought the necklace and bracelet from Lapponia's London store in 1976, just before filming started.

Things I wish I had read in "beginner" sewing tutorials/people had told me before I started getting into sewing

  • You have to hem *everything* eventually. Hemming isn't optional. (If you don't hem your cloth, it will start to fray. There are exceptions to this, like felt, but most cloth will.)
  • The type of cloth you choose for your project matters very much. Your clothing won't "fall right" if it's not the kind of stretchy/heavy/stiff as the one the tutorial assumes you will use.
  • Some types of cloth are very chill about fraying, some are very much not. Linen doesn't really give a fuck as long as you don't, like, throw it into the washing machine unhemmed (see below), whereas brocade yearns for entropy so, so much.
  • On that note: if you get new cloth: 1. hem its borders (or use a ripple stitch) 2. throw it in the washing machine on the setting that you plan to wash it going forward 3. iron it. You'll regret it, if you don't do it. If you don't hem, it'll thread. If you don't wash beforehand, the finished piece might warp in the first wash. If you don't iron it, it won't be nice and flat and all of your measuring and sewing will be off.
  • Sewing's first virtue is diligence, followed closely by patience. Measure three times before cutting. Check the symmetry every once in a while. If you can't concentrate anymore, stop. Yes, even if you're almost done.
  • The order in which you sew your garment's parts matters very much. Stick to the plan, but think ahead.
  • You'll probably be fine if you sew something on wrong - you can undo it with a seam ripper (get a seam ripper, they're cheap!)
  • You can use chalk to draw and write on the cloth.
  • Pick something made out of rectangles for your first project.
  • I recommend making something out of linen as a beginner project. It's nearly indestructible, barely threads and folds very neatly.
  • Collars are going to suck.
  • The sewing machine can't hurt you (probably). There is a guard for a reason and while the needle is very scary at first, if you do it right, your hands will be away from it at least 5 cm at any given time. Also the spoils of learning machine sewing are not to be underestimated. You will be SO fast.

I believe that's all - feel free to add unto it.

Last song listened to: My Silver Lining by First Aid Kit. Sort of been living off this song since mom passed.

Favorite color: My default answer is always red, but honestly, I don't have a favorite. I have become a rainbow girl. Give me a bright rainbow colored something and I'm happy.

Currently watching: Shogun. Holy cheeseballs it was so good. The finale was just the other week and I'm so sad to no longer have Shogun Thursdays. The attention to historical details in this production is fantastic.

Spicy/savory/sweet: All of the above? I can't do overly spicy but a little kick is so good.

Relationship status: Never understood why this question ever mattered, but then I am very Ace. Married though.

Current obsession: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth! I just finished it and I can't let it go so I have been going back and doing every stupid side quest possible.

Tagging: @airenwoodmoon if she wants to.

Okay but for anyone who legit wants to know how to calculate it correctly:

The elbow joint on average rests a couple inches higher than the navel, so if you measure how long the distance is from the middle of the shoulder to that point then you have the length of the upper and fore arms!

So if anyone’s wondering about legs too, the simplest rule of thumb is that the length from the top of the leg to the knee is equal to the distance between the top of the leg and the bottom of the pectorals:

And I wanna stress that when i say “top of the leg” i’m not talking about the crotch (please don’t flag me tumblr it’s an anatomical term) i’m talking about the point where the femur connects to the pelvis, which is higher up on the hips:

It’s easier to see what I’m talking about in this photo of a man squatting:

So yeah if you use that measurement when using this technique you should get fairly realistically proportioned legs:

But remember! messing with proportions is an important and fun part of character design! Know the rules first so you can then break them however you please!

HOW THE HELL DID I FIND THIS POST OMG

Licherally in the midst of drawing a guy and crying at how bad the arms are. Thanks Tumbles

I only ever saw the part where people started drawing the limbs outrageously long and genuinely wanted to know how to fix that, so I’m really thankful to see the rest.

This is super helpful for me now :D

So my embroidery post broke containment. I've never had a post end up with this many likes and reblogs, it's kind of crazy.

In light of this...I guess I should announce I'm going to start a new project soon! I'll do my best to post a few updates.

In the meantime I'll be obsessing over FF7 Rebirth because I just finished playing it and it was amazing.
