Putting things back into perspective

My mother has always told me to stand up for what I believe is right. Fighting for justice brings integrity, character, and principle to a person’s well-being. Despite who’s feelings you may hurt, who will be appalled that you begged to differ – you should always, always, ALWAYS fight for what you believe is right.

Margaret Thatcher once said, “If you set out to be liked, you would prepare for compromise on anything at any time and you would achieve nothing.

So here I am, calling out something I was so happy to be a part of. At the most recent Student Senate meeting, senators discussed how it may not be a good idea to send a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) to Los Angeles, California to attend a convention.  I will stray away from getting into too many specifics, but this RSO just so happened to be from the Communication department.

An anonymous senator said, “Last year, when [this RSO] went to their convention, they had pictures of bathtubs full of ice and champagne in their hotel room posted on Facebook.”

Well first of all, this specific RSO has not been to convention in two years. Second of all, no one has found said pictures (and yes this senator was assigned to essentially “Facebook creep” the situation).

After hounding this RSO with question, a motion was passed to table the allocation of funds for them until further notice, as there was no set “itinerary” or “fundraising efforts.”  Next up, a RSO from the business department asked for about $20 less than the other group. No itinerary, no fundraising efforts. I asked the one and only question - got an inadequate response. Motion carries 16-0-4.

Afterwards, a senator exclaimed, “I was so surprised how the first RSO responded to our questions! They definitely carried themselves well and knew what they were talking about.” Immediate assumption from this statement: Communication majors are stupid.

Next, a Senator of higher power *cough* President *cough* says, “This business club brings some awards back to the University – we need outcomes like that.” Immediate assumption from THIS statement: Communication students do not have to give research speeches in Orlando, Florida – they can’t earn us anything … even though they won 1st place awards in 10 different categories at their most recent regional convention.

I’m sorry, but if this is as much accreditation that the school is going to give our Communication department, should we not just make this CLARION UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS and get rid of everyone else? While the business department is getting more classes, we are losing ours. The University gets new professors left and right to teach accounting, marketing, and management, while we lose our film classes and our broadcasting professors. I’m confused as to why I should continue to pay this school to teach me my Communication courses, since it’s such a joke to the rest of the campus.

Thank you co-Senators for reminding me what it’s like to stand up for what I think is right.  Thank you also for showing me biased behavior at its finest. And finally, thank you for putting things back into perspective…

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.

The worst feeling in the world is knowing that your best friend, your confidante, your mother .. needs help and you have no way of helping her.

Last night I received a call that my mother was in the hospital for heart palpitations and complications.  She had been there since 6AM and no one bothered to tell me until 12 and a half hours later!  I was crushed.

If only my boyfriend and I had gas money, I would rush to her side in no time.  I spent most of the night with a broken heart.

I got to speak to her today, her heart beat is still irregular but she can get it shocked tomorrow to set it back straight.

I am worried for her.  If you pray, please pray for her.  If you don't believe in the power of prayer, please just keep her in your thoughts.

There is nothing more awful than the possibility of losing your last lifeline.

My stomach's turning you make me sick. For as slow as I fell in it, I fell out of love quick. Cant stand to hear your name but then again I can. This is the last time I'm falling for "the man". Should've just listened to my music & ignored your sweet tempting eyes but something about them had caught me by surprise. Don't worry now, I've got some of my life back on track I do wish karma would strike you though just like a heart attack.

Well Tuesday at midnight, I turned 21 years old.  I have only been waiting for this birthday since I was conceived. I am ecstatic.

On Thursday, 11/4, a beautiful new gift came into our lives - a precious Holland lop by the name of Kivo.  We were not really used to the name, but not wanting to hurt his originally mothers' feelings, we call him Kahlua Kardashian - Kivo for short. Although his nails are awfully painful, he has the softest fur, and sweetest personality. He came at a perfect time.

I am sick of people asking me, "Is he gay?"  SO WHAT IF HE IS? Is sexual orientation truly that important? Riddle me this, if being gay is such a huge concern, why isn't being straight one? I have never once been approached with the question, "Adele are you straight?" When will that ever matter?!  Will I be denied your friendship if I'm not - if that is the case, why would I ever want to be your friend?

My response will always be, "Ignorance is bliss."

This is the truest. I collected pogs and watched black and white TV - and we thought we were high tech then.  Kids today have EVERYTHING and are constantly wanting more. What are we raising?!

If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your own estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.

Realistically Speaking ...

I am not a pessimist nor an optimist, I literally see things as they are.  For example, let’s take a rocking chair.  An optimist would say: “That rocking chair will someday cater to the sitting needs of my future children & his children’s children.”  A pessimist would say: “That rocking chair is useless, it is going to break the moment anyone sits on it.”  I would say: “It’s a rocking chair” & continue on with my daily activities.

I simply cannot spend much time thinking about things that have yet to take place.  I must concentrate on what is going on right now.  There simply aren't enough hours in the day to sit and think in depth about everything!  Do you really sit down between every single decision or object and think about its pros and cons?  If you do, you're extremely lucky to have that much time on your hands!

I'm just saying.
