Bullet Journals

@bulletjournals / bulletjournals.tumblr.com

This blog is currently on hiatus, but you can still ask questions that I will answer ASAP on bullet journals, uni, studying, etc!

what brand of journals would you recommend? I'm having trouble picking one.

Hi, I personally use a moleskine. I’ve used it for about six months, although I’m taking a break from using it now. It’s probably the most used and popular notebook as a bullet journal, but I have found a few problems with it. I’ve found the binding to be pretty bad (ie loose, although this could be because i’ve stuck too many things in it) and the paper quality is quite poor (thin and the squares don’t line up very well with the page).

If I bought another notebook for bullet journaling I would consider a pukka pad, leuchtturm notebook, or a herlitz notebook. Hope this helps!

Does anyone have any more recommendations?

I love Piccadilly for my bullet journal! It’s basically a knockoff of the Moleskine so it’s about half or less of the price. It comes in a number of different styles (lined, graph, or blank) and the lined ones come in different colors, too. Personally I find the paper to be better than the Moleskine as well. So it’s a nice lower-budget alternative :)

I have a specific journal in mind to start my first bullet journal, but I've already written a lot in the one I have. Should I use it or just get a new one?

Hi, 100% up to you! It depend on what you feel most comfortable with. Personally, I would start a new journal as I would more able to be more creative with a new style of organisation.

Does anyone have an opinion on what they think would be best?

If you’re starting your first bullet journal I would recommend to get a new book. However I restarted my bullet journal (new index, new monthly layouts) like three times in the same book because it’s a moleskine and these are expensive af and I didnt want to purchase a new one when the other one was half empty still. x

I don't really understand billet journals. how do you plan ahead? like how do you remember future tasks?

Avatar

Hi, I think that’s one of the main problems of bullet journaling, as you are writing it step by step there is not really any set method for planning ahead. Personally I write down the date and the info for a future event on sticky note and then stick it on the page opposite my latest monthly calendar. Then when the appropriate month rolls around I write the event into that month’s calendar. Other people may use different methods though so I would check around and perhaps ask other bullet journal blogs.

Does anyone have any suggestions or methods for planning ahead on bullet journals?

There’s the calendex method! I’ve been using it and I love it! http://eddyhope.com/bullet-journal-future-events-solution/

Anonymous asked:

is it okay to take notes during class in a bullet journal? //have you??

Hi, I personally haven’t but I would think it would be okay for higher education. Maybe not High School as my teachers always liked us to write in school bought notepads. But it depends on what school you got too.

(On a side note I’ve used/written in my bullet journal for job interviews, and my prospective employers always seem quite impressed by my forethought to write down questions during the interview in it to ask them later.)

I've been looking at bullet journals a lot and I want to start one. Im not quite sure what I would use it for. Im in high school and my school has a system of posting homework all together already. I don't have finances or meetings. I feel like I would just use it for lists. Any suggestions?

Avatar

Hi, I currently use my bullet journal for list making since I finished Uni. I kind of use it for anything personal, such as list making, important dates such as doctors appointments, interviews etc.

If you need inspo have a look around my tags section, is has lots of examples for how you can used your bullet journal to suit you.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy a planner or make a bullet journal/some other template for when I start Uni in the fall. What do you feel bullet journals are best used for? Studying, personal things like chores or finances, etc? What are the benefits as compared to using a planner you could buy at the store or other templates? I currently use an At-A-Glance planner similarly to a DIY bullet journal to organize literally everything, which drew me to research bullet journaling. Thanks!

Hi, firstly, bullet journals can be used for anything you want them to be used for, be it work, uni finances, list and note making (which is what I currently use it for) or anything else as needed.

For Uni, either a planner style bullet journal or your own freestyle bullet journal would both be good options. A planner style (eg) would be more practical and structured with each day already marked out, but would not give you any space to write big entries or make lists throughout. A freestyle bullet journal would be less structured and give you more space, but for Uni this may not be what we you want, depends on your personal style and how much you write!

Hope this helps :)

Um I'm about to get my first bullet journal and I'm not sure whether to go for plain, lined, dotted or squared. What's your opinion??

Avatar

Hi, I think it all depends on personal preference. I think if you were more into decorating and having an ‘aesthetic’ planner then plain would be a good option as you can draw and have space to arrange the page the way you want too.

Ruled, again, is another good option. As you can write more neatly along lines and would be good for a diary-style bullet journal.

Personally though I prefer a squared layout as it more neatly regulates your handwriting so if you have messy handwriting like me, it looks neater. Also, squared is really the ‘original’ format for bullet journaling and is handy if you want to make financial charts for money tracking, or calendars.

Dotted is very similar to square and seems to be like a half-way house between plain and squared if you want a bit more stylistic freedom.

Hope this is useful!

Have you ever started a bullet journal (or any other notebook for that matter), lost track of it for months, and then come back to it? Do you pick up where you left off, or get a new notebook and leave another orphaned notebook to moulder away in your house? Asking for a friend.

Hi, yes all the time! I do this all the time with different notebooks, and since I have finished my degree I haven’t really used my bullet journal, only marking important dates and using it as a calendar. I think if I started using it again I would just pick up from where I left off, although I do have plenty of half-used and unused notebooks lying around that I feel slightly guilty about!

Can't find any stores that sell gridded moleskines, or anything like it. Do you know of any place?

Hi, I don’t know what country you are from, so the shops I go to may be inapplicable. However, you can find gridded moleskines on Amazon. Just search for ‘moleskine squared’. Hope this helps :)

For the anon with the planning ahead problem: Personally, i use an A5 Calendar with two days per page, so that i have enough space for everything. If i know of a future event, i just skip to the page and write it down:) But the rest is just like normal bullet journalling, i write my to do lists for everyday on the specific page in the calendar:) Hope that was useful (and understandable) xx

Thank you!

Hi! I love your account, and I hope your dissertation is going well. Can you please provide any efficient links and resources you use to learn the process of bullet journaling? Thanks!

Hi, thank you very much :)

You may want to have a look at my tags section and see if there is anything you want to specifically know more about there. Otherwise I have a tutorial/how to’s section which may be useful.

Hi there! I just started with bullet-journalling and I'm so happy that I found your tumblr! There is so much insiprations and ideas that sparked my interest! Thank you so much for all the efforts you put into this :) Anyway, I see that there's the Chronodex and Spiraldex tools and was wondering if you can point me in the direction on how to use them? I've seen some tutorials online but I still can't understand them :( THANK YOU SOOO MUCH :D

Hi, thank you very much! Now I feel bad for going on hiatus! But I hope there is enough already on blog that people can delve into the tags and find it useful.

Regarding your chronodex/spiraldex question I can’t be too much help unfortunatly as I haven’t ever used them and only post them for people who want to use them. I do have a tag dedicated to them though and that may have some helpful info. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!
