wait what happened omg

basically the education ministry in taiwan is going to ‘renew’ history texbooks/guidelines for curriculum by taking out the white terror era of taiwan (1949-1987, a period where taiwanese fought back against communism/resisting KMT and were executed etc), replacing crucial sections of taiwanese history with chinese history, omitting events where china ‘controlled’ taiwan, focusing more on japanese reign in taiwan. This texbook revision (which is about to take place 8/1, 2015) is disastrous since ‘changing’ history could result in future generations and our current one as well not knowing REAL taiwanese history. It would ruin our foundation as a country and blind the people from knowing their own history, their own roots. This is not just a problem of textbook revision, it is blatantly erasing taiwanese identity.

please pay attention to this. if the plan for the revision of Taiwanese history text books goes through the future generations of taiwan will pretty much be brainwashed and so much of their history and culture will be erased. these changes made in the textbooks are literally propaganda to support the KMT I’m honestly so worried

WAAAAAIT HOLD ON A SECOND, ‘it would ruin our foundation as a country’, do you mean it by Taiwan is a country or just China in general.

i mean it in the sense that Taiwan is its own country.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, is it just me or I’m sensing an independence speech of Taiwan out there. Taiwan is never a country, keep it in mind please, its always a part of China from the very start.

well you can say what you want, its your stance but since i am for taiwanese independence, i will say that taiwan is its own country. the only reason not every country outwardly acknowledges that taiwan is indeed its own country is because of political matters with china. whether you believe taiwan is its own country or not, we have years of history that could be omitted from our textbooks and the new revisions are literal propaganda to support to KMT and thats what i care more about now.

And now, my dear, its time for OUR country to change it.

no. you can keep your ‘taiwan is a part of china and always has been/taiwan cannot be independant’ views away from me and this post. ive clearly stated my stance and you yours, im taiwanese not chinese, whats happening in my country now is of my concern. if youre here to derail the original intent of the post (which was to spread awareness of the plans for textbook revision of the education ministry/kmt) by all means go ahead with your china-centric views. i wont be replying anymore as i feel like ive made my point clear so please stop thank you.

Well you please stop thank you, what you are doing now is making people think that Taiwan is its own country, but, as far as i can see, and google, and wiki, is not. I would ask, had you democratic progressive party not change your textbook and brainwash you?? Japanese invation of Taiwan IS real history and I don’t see an issue of changing that, or do you just not feel ashamed for being inslaved as a Japanese colony for such long times and beginning to feel proud for it??? Do please stop replying me, I’m sick of arguring with you anyway.

The fact that Taiwan was once enslaved by the Japanese is of course real history and it should be included in all textbooks, however what many Taiwanese have a problem with is that the new textbook revisions are leaning towards putting Japan in an excessively negative light while glorifying China and the KMT. There is nothing wrong with including the Japanese colonization era, however parts of history where the Chinese/KMT rule were oppressing us should not be omitted. The textbooks should include everythings thats happened not just one version of ‘history’.

“Taiwan is never a country” get over yourself. Get the fuck over yourself. This is why people like you disgust me. There are three main reasons why people claim that Taiwan is China. The first is that they are completely and blindly supportive of China’s imperialistic and oppressive antics. They think it’s right that they have when all it is is an obsessive, spoiled, immature attitude. The second reason is that they think, “oh well China is bigger and Taiwan is just a small island next to it so it doesn’t matter anyways.” This is the one that has the most genuine ignorance and laziness embedded in it. They hear more about China than Taiwan so they are partial to China. It’s the mere exposure effect, but it is in no way a justification for a person not versed in either country’s business to form a claim or even a feeble opinion. The third reason is that they believe Taiwan’s culture is so similar to China’s that it is China. Taiwan has major companies known around the world as Taiwanese companies and not Chinese companies, such as Asus, Acer, and HTC. Taiwan is known for its food, especially the night markets. When people talk about Taiwan’s night markets, they say “Taiwanese Night Markets” and not “Chinese Night Market” because they recognize that Taiwan is a separate entity. Taiwan is a democratic country. How can a democratic country rightfully belong to Communist China???? I can’t even understand how people spout trash about how Taiwan is China when they are so completely different. The brainwash game is real. And yes I say brainwash, because China is fucking good at doing that. The government convinces people that the MASS MURDERS they committed in Tibet didn’t even happen, or that they were insignificant. The government lied to its citizens about the country’s disastrous pollution, claiming it as fog for YEARS when they knew what was actually happening. And it lies and intimidates and oppresses like no other and if you think that for a second I will accept their claim over me as if I were an object then you’re damn wrong. And the similarities you see between Taiwan and China? They were majorly orchestrated by the Chinese government in the first place. When my mom and uncles and aunt were kids in school, they were punished for things like speaking Taiwanese with other students. It is a prime example of manipulation and suppression of Taiwanese culture and heritage. Why do you think that the Chinese government would go as far as to manipulate the children in Taiwan? It is because it needs to create a better claim on Taiwan for itself, because it knows that without manipulation Taiwan would be starkly independent and separate. It is not a natural occurrence it is a movement. It is a Movement of Oppression by the Chinese government. And saying that Taiwan belongs to China is the same saying that, because China successfully oppressed the Taiwanese on some accounts, it deserves to have a claim on Taiwan. It is akin to validating a bully’s actions because he successfully rendered his victim incapable of retaliation. When you say that Taiwan is a part of China, not only are you supporting the oppression that its people were subjected to, but also instances of oppression everywhere around the world and let me tell you it’s fucking despicable. And I am so tired of being lectured by self righteous Chinese on how I should “embrace my home country” and so tired of WHITE people telling me why THEY think a country they have no clue about belongs to the one the produces the Kung Fu movies they watch while eating takeout. This is part of what it means to be Taiwanese now. It means that at every claim to the heritage and every nationalistic statement made there will be a person that comes to insult is, invalidate us, and oppress us. And I am sick of it. I am sick of it, but I will speak out against it at every turn because though I am tired, I am angry. I will not allow people to tell me who I am. I am Taiwanese and I am proud of it, and I will not be bulldozed by ignorant, disparaging comments.

just leaving this here

Firearm crimes actually doubled after the ban, and during the first year of ban it was about 47 firearm crime per year. Idk what that person's criteria of shooting is for it to just 1 in UK since 97.

Reaction to Taylor’s speech VS reactions to Sam’s speech…

Also, I’d also like to point out that the song that won the award (I Knew You Were Trouble) was released with the album in October 2012 and Taylor and Harry broke up in 2013… Not that this should matter but it really shows how the media can manipulate you into reacting and thinking a certain way
