Trump tweeted this statement earlier this week, which incorrectly included Alabama in the list of states that would be impacted by Hurricane Dorian:

This error was quickly addressed by the National Weather Service & the correction was picked up by the news

Of course, Trump couldn’t handle being corrected by meteorologists on the fucking weather so:

As someone who took two years of meteorology let me just say that a big concern regards mass panic when issuing weather alerts and warnings. You don’t want people unnecessarily leaving - jamming up the roads or putting themselves at risk (sometimes the safest thing to do is to stay put esp. if the roads are at risk of flooding), you don’t want confusion, and you definitely don’t want people to lose confidence in the weather warnings where they no longer take them seriously. And it doesn’t really help the cause when the fucking president of the country can’t issue a simple correction that HE WAS WRONG because of his fragile fucking ego.

Add “distress” to your pain scale

Pain scale? More like pain in the booty. No two people seem to read it the same way, and chronic folks tend to downplay their pain.

So here’s an idea: when asked to rate your pain, provide a number to rate your distress levels in addition to your pain levels.

Some examples:

“I’m at a 5 on the pain scale, but my distress is basically a 1 because this is my usual.”
“I’m at a 3 on the pain scale, but my distress is a 7 because this is new pain and affects a part of my body that’s very important to my work.”

It’s a great way to consider how your pain is impacting you—and to get a doctor’s attention where it’s actually needed.

OP is a genius

lol I finally got so fed up I called my landlord and he thought all the work had been done last week. joke’s on you buddy, part of it was left half-done and the other half was never started at all.

do you know how mad and frustrated and panicked I have to be to make a phone call?

if anyone’s wondering how the handyman saga is going, the electrician said he was coming on Thursday or Friday last week and never came, my landlord texted me this morning to say the handymen would be coming to continue on the outside of the house this morning but they never came, and it turns out they broke my washing machine the last time they were here so I had to text my landlord about that. Then two handymen came to fix the washing machine, while I stood over them because for once I actually wanted to know what the hell was going on.  (Five hours later, after I’d already worked myself into a sobbing panic attack over it.)  So I haven’t tested the washing machine again since I had to go up to campus but lol, that’s where we’re at.

basically just imagine me screaming uncontrollably at any given point in time.

as it happens it was NOT fixed and the landlord is just like, “huh, that’s weird, the handymen will be back next week.”  (like, the washing machine itself seems to be fine, I think it’s the connection to the sump pump that has an issue. it’s draining but not like. the way it should. but only for my machine, not the neighbors’. because of course.)

SURPRISE HANDYMEN. ZERO NOTICE.

unless you count my landlord texting me on Tuesday to tell me they’d be back that morning (they weren’t), then telling me after the washing machine debacle that they’d be back next week.

literally the first thing I said was “ARE YOU HERE TO FIX THE WASHING MACHINE?”

apparently yes but also they’re painting the trim. listen, whatever, just fix the washing machine and preferably also my drippy bathroom faucet.

Re: your tag note: Just so you know, in every jurisdiction I’ve seen the case law in, “reasonable notice” is construed to be a higher standard than 24 hours notice and not lower for most non-emergency issues.  I can’t give legal advice yet or for Georgia, but notwithstanding that I’m pretty sure <24 hours notice for either painting a trim or fixing a washing machine drainage issue would be considered UNreasonable notice by both the administrative bodies that enforce landlord-tenant law for the State and by all but the most pro-landlord biased judges.  Had you objected to that time when the landlord texted you, at least, which maybe you didn’t want to do if the broken machine was too inconvenient.  Should these kind of issues persist long enough, you’d likely have other rights as well.
