An eco-village constructed from recycled, reused, and locally sourced materials – including hemp, straw bales, wood, locally sourced clay, and recycled car tyres. The village contains 23 houses and is a home to 70 people. The village produces 75% of its own electricity and 100% of its own hot water from solar energy.

The next gen of council houses should look like this. We have the knowledge and tech to build environmentally friendly homes, that also use natural resources to keep your bills down / make em non existent. But homes like this are the preserve or middle class divs who’re making a lifestyle choice, when we should all have access to em.

today being juneteenth, it is more important than ever we listen to voices of the black community. i’ve found that I follow a lot of white created fiction podcasts, they’re the ones that often get more attention and i know i and the collective podcast community can do better. that being said, i’ve compiled a list of fiction podcasts with lead black characters (and casts) and ones that are being created by black writers. (most of which are now on my bucket list of podcasts to listen to, although I have started Forest 404) if you have any to add on, please do!

Forest 404

Genre: eco-thriller. Produced by the BBC (generally I’m not a corporate podcast fan but this one’s pretty damn good). Starring Pearl Mackie (Bill from DW!) as Pan.

Bronzeville

Genre: historical fiction. Starring Larenz Tate as Jimmy Tillman. Depicts the South side of Chicago in the ‘40s at it’s peak existence as a thriving black neighborhood.

All Things Undone

Genre: Afro-futurism sci-fi. Starring Chene Lawson as Mirabelle, a formerly enslaved black woman who finds herself “unkillable” after a solar eclipse rewrites Black people’s DNA. The world must now rebuild itself, and Mirabelle finds herself at it’s forefront. *This podcast needs more support and have yet to publish as many episodes as they have because they lack patrons!*

Adventures in New America

Genre: Sci-fi afro-futurism political satire. Brought to you by our good friends Nightvale Presents, starring Paige Gilbert as Simon Carr, a lesbian sneak theif who joins her unlikely friend IA in a quest to find money to pay for IA’s medical treatment while navigating the wilds of New New York. (With Vampire Zombies!)

Nightlight

Genre: Horror. Creepy stories written by Black writers and performed by Black actors. Not sure there’s much else to say about this one, except that it appears it will scare you!

Carrier

Genre: Horror, thriller. A truck driver with unknown cargo, played by Cynthia Erivo, travels a dark and dangerous road.

Unwell

Genre: Midwestern gothic mystery. Shariba Rivers plays Lillian Harper, who moves to a small town in Ohio to care for her estranged mother in the family’s conspiracy and ghost filled boarding house.
