As the warm air turns cold, we take a moment to reflect. Capitol Couture has always promised to break the rules, and this issue is no exception. Trends come and go, so do regimes. Self-expression is forever.

AUGUSTUS BRAUN, THE 67TH VICTOR

What a whirlwind this past week has been! Seemingly in an effort to raise spirits around the Capitol’s war efforts, CapitolTV has been releasing long-sequestered Victory Tour posters from the CMI archives. Following the release of striking images of the resilient Porter Millicent Trip (victor of the 38th Games) and the beloved Mags Flanagan (victor of the historic 11th Games), today we’re blessed with a staggering poster set featuring the stalwart Augustus Braun from District 1.

Augustus Braun, aka “The Cavalier Career”, stands amongst stark Capitol architecture in these 67th Victory Tour posters. His white ensemble is bright and optimistic; a knowing aesthetic decision in direct contrast to the unkempt persona he cultivated during his Games. Braun stands proud, both of his success in the arena and of his nation, secure in his legacy as Panem’s Favorite Son. The Capitol duly sung his praises as he toured the districts, bringing with him a message of prosperity and reconciliation to the people.

It’s an honor to showcase your Victory Tour posters, Augustus. May it remind our readers of a happier era in this great country, and serve to inspire those that seek to make a difference during these trying times.

MAGS, THE 11TH VICTOR

CapitolTV has released a second set of Victory Tour posters from their archives, and we at Capitol Couture are in agreement; they couldn't be any more beautiful. It's fair to say that few of us living in Panem today have ever laid eyes on these rare and precious artifacts, with them having been sealed in the Capitol vaults for over 60 years.

Mags Flanagan, immortalized here as a young woman, looks as fierce and tenacious as ever. Her triumphant win in the 11th Hunger Games made her a household name and Panem’s sweetheart for years to come. It's incredible to think this stoic girl is the same woman that smiled so warmly and fought so valiantly alongside Katniss Everdeen in the 75th Hunger Games.

Fashioning olive fatigues, Mags' vintage look feels surprisingly on-trend with the current wave of militia attire. This, paired with minimal makeup, makes Mags look devastatingly elegant and timeless. Could Mags have been an overlooked style icon? Capitol Couture thinks so.

As fabulous and eye-catching as this heroic imagery is, and while Mags returned to the Games during the most recent Quarter Quell, these iconic Victory Tour posters remained under lock and key until now… perhaps saving them for greater impact when the message was needed most by The Capitol Gamemakers? Only time will tell.

Susanne Bartsch has been at the nexus of fashion and art in the Capitol since the beginning of her storied career. Creative Director, Event Producer and Mom are among her many job titles, but it's her singularity of vision that made her a household name as a fashion icon. She first came to prominence for her NYC store, causing a sensation by importing then little-known English designers such as John Galliano, Leigh Bowery, Vivienne Westwood and Mr. Pearl. She then found her métier producing spectacular happenings around the globe for a roster of high-profile clients. Her star-studded fundraisers produced millions of dollars for those affected by AIDS. Currently, she's the subject of a blockbuster retrospective at F.I.T. called “Fashion Underground: The World of Susanne Bartsch.”

PORTER, THE 38TH VICTOR

To Capitol citizens, there are none more celebrated than our victors, District citizens who have displayed heroism against the odds. So why has CapitolTV begun re-releasing former Victory Tour posters amidst a revolution? We can only imagine this is a last ditch effort to rally support around the Capitol. Whatever their reason, we at Capitol Couture are taking these posters at face value, examining the fashion and design behind these iconic posters celebrating beloved icons.

There is only one victor we can imagine making a head brace look stylish—Porter Millicent Tripp from District 5. For those of you that don’t remember, Tripp earned her “halo” and a broken neck after a spinal injury she received in the Games’ final showdown. She posed for her Victory Tour poster wearing a form-fitting navy bodysuit with bright orange Capitol insignias. The complimentary colors draw you in while her defiant look makes her an unforgettable victor. We at Capitol Couture are still in awe of you, Porter. Well done indeed.

Hosted by an esteemed group of tastemakers, we’re proud to feature specialty looks and projects inspired by the Capitol’s fashionable legacy… with a revolutionary twist. Enjoy!

First we have Blair Fowler, a DIY home décor expert and fashionable lifestyle vlogger, who will show us how a simple spark (and about 500 match sticks) can create a stylish, couture wall decoration and hand fan accessory. Samsung Presents: The Huntress

IT’S HERE! The final look in our series dedicated to the unstoppable partnership between Samsung visionaries and Capitol Contributor Susanne Bartsch. We are giddy with excitement! Weaving together technology and art, photographer Steven Klein captures pure, unadulterated ferocity. Their muse? The huntress. A strong and savage leader who isn’t afraid to take down her adversaries. Inspired by “defense mechanisms in nature,” her outerwear is a blend of trophies collected in the wild and found materials that function as protective armor. She is adorned in a crown of fabulous porcupine quills complemented by a whimsical leopard capelet. And yes, her armor is comprised of—elastic cords and zip ties! (I’m sure few of you are wondering what these are, to be honest, we hadn’t even seen these until the arrival of our emergency kits.) Take a moment to stand in awe of this wild beauty, she is a testament to the power within us all.

Samsung Presents: Plume

A modern look for the modern Capitol Citizen. Created with wearability in mind, this look is perfectly suited for shopping during the day or attending a casual function in the evening. This bold feather mohawk packs a big punch—a bold alternative to your everyday wig. The look is supported by a skin-tight PVC body suit featuring well-placed cutouts and gladiator shoulder pads draped with lush white furs. We applaud the collaboration of Samsung and Capitol Contributor Susanne Bartsch for creating looks that challenge our notions of fashion and invite us all to rise to the occasion.

Samsung Presents: Surge and Swell

Break out your flags, banners and gonfalons—revolution is in the air! To evoke the spirit of these changing times, Capitol Contributor Susanne Bartsch has employed innovative Samsung technology to design a distinctive new look for the Capitol runway. Bartsch has a reputation for being a controversial figure in the Capitol—an effervescent personality with a penchant for breaking the rules. Her latest design, modelled by Hannah Davis and photographed by renowned fashion photographer Steven Klein, is an absolute showstopper. We are completely transfixed by the translucent silk chiffon cape reminiscent of waving oriflammes. It’s daring. It’s bold. It’s stunning. Paired with an authoritative bodysuit, the entire look feels somehow elegant and playful. The half moon headpiece, in the vein of traditional Japanese dress, a vibrant red (no doubt the hottest hue of the season). Sigh, let’s just say can’t wait for this piece to hit boutiques this fall. We salute you, Susanne Bartsch, and are proud to showcase your work in the pages of Capitol Couture.

Katniss Prepares for Battle

Outfitted in spectacular jet black armor, the Mockingjay looks devastatingly militant as she fashions her familiar game face. Even in his absence, Cinna’s designs continue to inspire and delight us, proving that functional garments can still be fabulous. Insiders say this armor was specially designed to Katniss’ specifications and needs; providing her with protection in the battlefield and style points for public appearances. Capitol Couture gives Katniss’ look an A+ and we are happy to report it is Effie-approved.

Capitol Look: Craig Green

One look at Craig Green’s A/W 15 collection and you feel the intensity. It’s bold, striking, unapologetic. That’s what stood out most to our Capitol Couture editors, who are naming Craig Green “One to Watch” this year. Green is transforming the way we think about menswear, creating statement pieces that reinvent movement and form.

In collaboration with Nick Knight, the two set out to turn fashion into pure anguish. The result is a breathtaking spectacle that breathes life into Green’s collection: architectural details become limbs, models become warriors vying for territory. Through fashion, they have declared war.

Green’s collection is all about power. Something we could all use at this present moment. Remember: fashion is more than pretty things, it has the ability to instill us with strength and confidence. Something as small as a gold Mockingjay pin can become a symbol for an entire movement. The next time you suit up, think of what empowers you, so you too may venture forth in a blaze of glory.
