Talking through. I always need a bit of time after a show to get back in the swing of drawing and writing. That in between period usually is good for weirder stuff like this one! #pascalcampion

Selection from Ivar Arosenius, trans. Muḥammad Ẓāhir, Al-Jawlah Al-gharībah Lil-hirrah Al-ʻajībah (Stockholm: Dār Al-Muná, 1996). This children’s book, “Cat Journey” in English, was written and illustrated by Swedish artist Ivar Arosenius and originally released in Swedish under the title “Kattresans” in 1909, was recently published in Arabic translation in Sweden
It is about a girl who pats a cat. The cat offers a ride on its back and they embark on strange adventures. They get to meet animals, both kind and nasty, and a police officer, aunt, an ugly old man and a king. In the end, the cat eats so much goodies that it bursts, but the king’s tailor sews it back together and the fairy tale ends in restful calm at home in the girl’s mother’s arms. Generations of children have grown up with Ivar Arosenius picture book illustrations, of which those in Kattresan are the best known. Sweden’s answer to “Alice in Wonderland”. The slightly limping rhymes of the text harmonize with the angular and unreal charm of the illustrations.

kids these days with their favorite character as their lockscreens… when I was a youth you had to carefully arrange all your favorite anime pictures on a word document and print it out to carefully slip inside the plastic sleeve of your three ring binder
this just unlocked repressed memories in my brain
