Maaaaan as a fellow type one do I feel this. Especially before diagnosis. See one of the problems of High Blood Sugar is frequent Urination and thirst. So picture this 9 year old girl dancing on one leg because BOY HOWDY I GOTTA GO. but since I'm asking for the potty so often the teachers must think I'm playing hooky or something because they don't let me go. the obvious happens and yanno what my teachers did? Give me a hand? Maybe call my parents because this is unusual behavior? That would be far too sensible. They threatened to suspend me if I ever have another accident.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 3 months after this threat, the medical staff saying if I had let things go any longer I would have been forced to stay in the hospital for a month.

Our queen

this reminds of these kids I used to nanny. the eldest (8 at the time) taught me how to play chess with this set. I remember him going over the pieces and stated that Luigi was the queen and he, no joke, said “because he’s the nicest and you have to protect someone like that” that has always stuck in my head whenever I see Luigi now

If you're struggling with the cost of living right now (reasonable), this is your PSA to...

  1. Google universities/colleges near you.
  2. If you can't get out to more than one, look up which one has the highest tuition.
  3. Look-up when the graduation date is
  4. Drive neighborhoods near the university the week before graduation

So much stuff gets left out on the curb. Wealthy college students tend to prioritize convenience over money, so instead of carefully reselling their perfectly good stuff, they frequently give it away or put it out with the trash because that's easier than moving, reselling, or donating. Take advantage of this.

I furnished pretty much my entire apartment from college giveaways and yardsales.

What I got for free:

  • Mattress and box springs
  • 2 10 ft area rugs
  • The massive 9-drawer chest (that has a label on the back that it was custom-made and shipped across the country) that my TV sits on.
  • Two 13 x 2 ft raised garden beds
  • My desk - just sanded it down and refinished it.
  • Three short stools
  • An organizer rack
  • Watering can
  • Tommy Bahama outdoor cooler (retails for $350)
  • Chairs
  • Shelves

What I got for cheap:

  • Two futons for $50
  • Custom coffee table with storage for $25
  • Three tall stools for $30

Seeing all the tags where people are warning that picking stuff up OFF the curb is illegal in their area has the same vibes as the oranges in Grapes of Wrath, and I hope all your city councilmen get eaten by the live furniture from Monty Python.

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning

If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:

These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:

But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.

Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.

If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.

Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.

Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.

Cat plays theremin

the sustained note with the big-eyed stare… like… yes that sound is a perfect auditory representation of what is going on in the cat’s brain

A few days ago I thought: “I wanna build a theremin and then bring it to the cat shelter and see what happens,” and then this video pops up on my dash.

This sounds like the old Cartoons where they're struggling to get radio signals, so I'm lead to believe the Folley Artists just stuck their cats in a room with their theremins and let kitty do the work while they took a nap or something
