New York City Bugs

@nycbugman / nycbugman.tumblr.com

I'm an aspiring Forensic Entomologist who loves all things insects (and arachnids and inverts and well you get it, oh and birds too). Almost all of my pictures come from the great city of New York; follow me for awesome insects and animals in NYC.

Moth, and roughly Moth-shaped blemish on palmetto (made by Baby Moth)

The palm-leaf housemaker (Homaledra heptathalama) is one of my favorites. The adults are very pretty, the babies feed on palmetto, making blemishes which often resemble the adults very closely. It's a pretty solid strategy for being inconspicuous.

this little butterfly is Sarota acantus, a fingernail-sized work of art found in Central and South America. you can tell this one is a female since she’s walking on all six legs—male metalmarks have a greatly reduced first pair!
