Prince 'Charming'

Maybe there aren’t any happily ever afters, or white knights who ride in on valiant steeds to save the day. Maybe, in real life, Prince Charming is just as flawed as everyone else in the tale

“Is this really necessary?” Any protest was cut off as David found himself suddenly lifted into the air, fingers barely managing to set his half full beer on the table before it managed to slosh all over Granny’s newly washed floor. The knight was strong, the once prince had to give him that - but all he could manage was a steady stream of protests, mouth opening and closing with a forcible snap at the punctuated laugh of his newest companion’s pirate friend. “Alright, alright .. you’ve proved your worth as a knight more than ten times over.”

A pause stretched between them, blue eyes purposely looking everywhere but to the other man’s face. They were causing quite a scene if the sudden silence permeating the diner was any indication, cheeks flushing a pale shade of pink as he was finally dropped to his feet. “Thanks.” One palm brushed at invisible dirt along his shirt, brow rising as he met Guy’s stare. “Lets not ... do that again.”

“That was one time.” Of course, she knows he’s kidding, but she can’t help the roll of her eyes. Of all the things she was never going to live down… Still, he’s sweet, to still attempt the flirting even after years and years together. Once his arm’s around her shoulders, she easily slid an arm around his waist, a mock sigh of defeat escaping her lips. “I don’t know, I seem to remember a few stumbles of your own, Charming.”

“I can’t believe you would even say that.” The comment regarding Whale was studiously ignored ... playful teasing or not, Snow could get pretty riled up when she wanted to. One palm pressed against his chest in mock dramatics, blue eyes rolling skyward as if he were about to faint as one arm encircled her own about his waist. “Maybe I do stumble .. “ Steps were soft against the floor as he led her a few paces before stopping, taking a moment to twirl her around as if in a dance and pulling her closer; mind already made up despite the obvious futile display that came next. “ .. but the only reason is so I can stagger into you.”

"Hello princess" from merida lmfao

“For the last time, I’m more than capable of climbing this tree.” Fingers gripped rough branches as the prince pulled himself upwards, huffs of breath leaving him with each exhaustive effort. “Just ... stay down there with your bow.  I have this.” Sunlight filtered through the leaves above, the barest patch of foliage leaving blue sky open to see. He was almost there, almost -

A sudden cracking and he was letting out a rather undignified and not very princely yell, hands scrabbling to grab onto something that might possibly break his fall. The ground was rising up to meet him entirely too fast and with a wasted effort David kicked out, desperate to find some branch to hold on to. Blue eyes closed as he prepared for his impending doom, body suddenly hitting something with a thud and groan. It was too soft to be dirt, too giving to be a branch .. and one eye finally found the courage to peek open, cheeks flushing a deep shade of red as he was dropped ceremoniously to the ground.

Rising to his feet with his best impression of royalty, the prince cleared his throat - gaze looking anywhere other than the red head’s eyes. “Merida.” Her name was a croak as he cleared his throat, fingers resting on the hilt of his blade as if that somehow inflated his now broken and bruised ego. “It seems that tree has objections to one trying to climb it - “ Another gruff cough and he finally met her eyes, fingers dropping to hang in a defeated slump at his side. “Thank you. For the ... catch .. I mean. It seems you know more tricks than just how to use a bow.”

Note to self: Don’t get on her bad side.

Storybrooke was ever a changing town, a fact made more than obvious by the sudden breaking of Regina’s curse. Suddenly those who had been lost were springing up every where - lost memories replacing the haziness that had been left in their wake even while cursed remembrances still remained. David had found Snow, he had found his happy ending... and yet still something eluded him. A face, otherwise lost in a crowd of recollection; a voice, tone soothing to what had once been a dark world ... and somehow, someway, he had managed to lose it.

The cup of coffee in front of him grew colder by the minute, thoughts mulling over everything he knew about the woman in his memory, the woman who had invaded dark dreams when he needed hope the most. The town was awash with ideas, hints as to who she could be, where she could be ... but they weren’t enough to go on, even for a man such as himself. Finally standing with a sigh, fingers tossing a few dollars on the surface and coffee lying forgotten, the acting sheriff settled on a stroll through town. If gossip was to be believed, and Ruby was always the best source of information - then his enigma could be anywhere. More than likely, borrowing something .. but that was a claim David chose to ignore.

Innocent until proven guilty.

The streets were quiet, perfect for a relaxing midday stroll had he been searching for such a thing .. and as the clock chimed above, blue eyes couldn’t help but fall to the Clock Tower,  brows rising suspicious at the door that stood ajar. The library was closed, had been closed, it made no sense .. and long strides were suddenly carrying him forward, thoughts of finding his savior pushed aside for whatever nefarious dealings were going on right in front of his nose. The dust in the air was thick, mingling with the smell of old books that caused his nose to itch - arm suddenly rising up to cover a sneeze that echoed through the seemingly empty space.

Image

“Hello?” The question carried through the air, another sneeze threatening as he stepped carefully around the shelves - gaze finally landing on the perpetrator. “Hey, Stop!”  Brows quirked upwards as the woman met his gaze, dusty air all but forgotten in the shock that followed. “You, its - you.”

The netting had captured him before he noticed it, thoughts mentally berating his stupidity as he was hoisted into the air. It was a cliche plan, one he had used himself - and as the bonds tightened David could do no more than sigh dramatically. There was not telling who had concocted such an idea, no telling who was responsible for the attempted capture of a royal. Regina came to mind - but even measures such as this struck him as beneath her. Any exultation was cut off at the cutting of rope, the ground suddenly rushing up entirely too fast. Arms kept him from landing in a heap, lips curving upwards in a smile at the words that spilled from Snow’s lips.

Image

“Is this really necessary?” The smile taking over his expression belied any attempt at disappointment, weight shifting as long legs once more found solid earth and blue eyes sparkling in amusement. “I knew you’d find me. Though, in truth...“ Fingers moved forwards, closing the distance between them and brushing raven locks behind her ear, one eye giving a decidedly charming wink.  “ ... The rope netting gave me pause.”

With a pout not usually akin to his station, David slid from the surface, brows furrowing in a scowl and lips turning down to his best frown. It wasn’t often that his attempts at flirting failed and shoulders hunched in defeat, blue eyes a mix of hurt and disappointment. “ I bet it worked for Whale.” One arm slung across her shoulder, squeezing gently as one brow raised. “Besides, I’m not the falling type ... that’s more Hook’s thing.”

‘ i have cause. it’s be-cause i hate him. ’ ( from cora )

Lips dipped into a frown, hands resting on hips as the acting sheriff let out a sigh. Having Cora in Storybrooke as an ally of all things was something new entirely, an idea that often had blue eyes rolling skyward no matter how often Regina swore she had changed. The people of their town felt no different if the sudden berth around them was any indication and David let out another sigh, brows furrowing into a barely restrained scowl.

Image

“Hate or no, this town is quiet. And for once I’d like to keep it that way.” Blue eyes took a moment to study her, posture relaxing the slightest bit as weight shifted from foot to foot. There were other things that needed doing, other people that needed to be reminded to mind their own business (Leroy came to mind) .. but leaving Cora to wander the streets on her own left a bad taste in his mouth, so the sheriff did something he once thought himself not capable of. “I can’t believe I’m saying this - but  come on a job with me. We’re not exactly  likely to need any hearts ripped out -but Regina assures me that part of your past is behind you. Regardless, the last thing we need is you wandering by yourself.” Especially full of hate.
