I just love the whole post apocalyptic aesthetic and since some of my favorite characters are Akatsuki members I got the idea of drawing this some sort of post apocalyptic AU. Of course I first had to design their outfits first and this is the result. In the end I worked a lot harder on them than I first had planned to, so I thought that I could share these, even if they are super sketchy.
Now my inspiration, if not obvious by Hidan, was the Mad Max franchise, punk fashion and the general aesthetic of the post apocalyptic look.
I didn’t intend for Hidan to look so much like a war boy, but it really was the first thing that popped up in my mind when I was designing his outfit and it sort of just happened. I totally see him as that crazy cultist that gets injured a lot ‘cause he has no sense of self-preservation, while still being insanely lucky and avoiding life threatening injuries and Hidan just chalking up his luck factor to Jashin and how loyal of a servant he is. Kakuzu obviously is displeased with Hidan’s insane actions, since he’s sort of the medic of the team and has to patch him up all the time.
Now with Konan I figured that she would be some sort of scrapper that collects metal instead of paper (since this is a post apocalyptic world where I figure paper wouldn’t hold much importance into) and creates weapons or metal works for her own enjoyment. Like, for example, the flower that is in her hair is made of metal she herself molded. Her means of combat would always involve creative weapons she put together herself. She would also be the non official weapons provider of the team.
For Dediara the first thing that popped into my mind was a terrorist, thus the scarf around his face (though he doesn’t wear it like that all the time, only when going into combat). He would be, obviously, the explosions specialist in the team, creating self-made bombs and explosives. Similarly to Konan he would be a scavenger as well, searching the wasteland for parts and materials to create his art - explosions.
