howard: that kid’s not even here yet, and there’s nothing i wouldn’t do for him

tony:

Me @ the russos during that scene:

Yeah, if Howard wanted Tony so much, what happened then? Why Tony never saw an ounce of this love that Howard is proclaiming to have?

I mean….tony spends most of spiderman homecoming ignoring peter. Yea he listened to his messages and intervened when peter almost died. But peter only put himself at risk because he thought tony forgot him. He even legitimately thought that him coming out as an avenger was a good idea.

If tony loved peter but was neglectful u can imagine that maybe howard lived his son but was equally shitty about how to show it

tony is not peter’s father. during homecoming, he sees him as a kid to mentor. he is not responsible to see to peter’s everyday life. peter already has aunt may to do so.

peter did not put himself at risk not because he thought tony forgot him–tony is on the phone with him before he messes up on the ferry, telling him he did a good job in dc! (”my father never really gave me a whole lot of support, and i’m just trying to break the cycle of shame.”) he put himself at risk because he’s a kid and he’s brand new to this superhero thing. he thought he had to prove himself and didn’t know his boundaries. he had a lot to learn–that’s what the movie’s about.

tony is anything but neglectful to peter. he made him a billion dollar suit before he even met him, complete with a personal ai, a suit that also alerts tony if peter is in mortal danger. he assigns happy, one of the people tony trusts most in the entire world, to keep an eye on him. he calls him to offer support and tries to set boundaries and rules to keep him safe. he does kind of keep him at arms length, sure. he isn’t quite sure what his role in peter’s life is yet.

and at the end of the movie, when he sees peter needs more from him? he steps up. at the time of infinity war, they’ve become closer. tony actively spends time with him and obviously sees him as a son, even if he doesn’t realize it yet. when peter is terrified at the end of the movie, he goes to tony, he tells him “i don’t feel so good”, which is like, exactly what a kid would say to his dad. peter is able to find comfort in him despite his fear.

and of course, in endgame, tony has fully accepted his role as a father figure in peter’s life and hugs him without restraint in the middle of a fucking battlefield.

tl;dr: howard is a sack of shit and tony is everything his father never was, and anyways, the point of the post is about tony’s feelings towards his dad, not whether or not howard actually loved him.
