Some people are frustrated in the notes at the “white!” jokes but I don’t think it’s just like a “these artists are all white” thing. Freddie Mercury is Indian, Mitski is japanese American (I believe), and so is Hayley Kiyoko. What lord farquad is trying to say, I think, is that the majority of white people have a very small pool of artists they listen to: these artists are usually white. This is telling because it shows that white people really haven’t like explored any of the musical genres they’re into and found black or brown artists to listen to. Especially considering just about all genres of music nowadays can be attributed to black and other non-white artists from the 50s and 60s or earlier. There is not some requirement for white people to listen to non-white artists but like come on, there is a plethora of phenomenal black, brown, indigenous, Asian, etc artists worth listening to. Again lord farquad isn’t saying that the only people who listens to these artists are white people, but rather is making a complex commentary on the majority of white audiences only listening to white artists.
