the world was silent.
when we were screaming from our screens to your faces that we were at war, you were silent.
when we were screaming from our basements that we are being attacked, you were silent.
when we were crying from our pain of having to fight for our land again, you were silent.
no one came.
no one came to help us. no one posted to bring attention to us. no one cared and no one cares about us.
they invaded us. they tried to destroy us, kill our men, rape our women, leave our children orphans, take away our land, burn down our churches and break our cemeteries where my grandparents are buried.
but the world was silent.
who cares about a small piece of land no one claimed but many, including me, call their motherland? who cares about a small nation with a weird dialect? who cares about us? we are landlocked, have barely any resources, we are not interesting to the world. why speak about us? why bring any attention to us?
that’s why the world was silent.
you say we don’t understand your pain. but we do. oh how we do. but you didn’t know about us. or cared to know about us.
