Parts to a Whole

Interpreting a person’s Natal Chart is like looking at individual aspects to a bigger whole unit. By that I mean that all the aspects are blended together within the individual, rather than operating individually.

One example is music. There are often many instruments or vocalists contributing at once, with a variety of notes, to come together to create one unified piece.

Another example is visual art. Many different colors and shapes are added, and blended together, to create one image.

The Natal Chart interpretations  look at the different instruments, notes, colors, and shapes that the work of art is composed of, and what they mean individual. Aspects (or angles between the planets) examines how they are working together.

However, it is the reader’s task (sometimes the Astrologer, depending on personal preferences) to put all the pieces together to understand the full picture that is the Native’s personality.

Often when examining a Natal Chart, there will be both contradictions and confirmations. You may read in one section that the individual may be prone to one type of reaction, and read the complete opposite in a different section. You may also read in one section that the individual may value certain things, and read the same in a different section.

Typically, when there are confirmations, those traits (or set of traits) are particularly strong. These traits may be hardest to change in a person. Bad habits that are seen in multiple sections of the Natal Chart are the hardest to break. This isn’t always bad, though, as it also solidifies the “positive” traits of the individual, as well.

When there are contradictions, those traits (or set of traits) are subject to internal conflict. A person will feel pulled in both directions. When it comes to which will be exhibited, usually the side that falls under the description of the Sun Sign reigns strongest, followed closely by the Moon, then the other personal planets.

For example;

If you see Sun in Capricorn described as realistic, and Neptune in Pisces described as easily loses touch with reality, it’s more likely that the traits described by the Sun will shine the brightest.

VESTA: The virginal self. Shows capacity for self-sufficiency and where you direct your devotion. Sense of trust, love and respect for the self. Personal potential, your pure essence. Chastity, intimacy, and sexuality. Integration and focus. Conscious self will in contact with the other, both people and environment. Associated with Virgo and Scorpio.

*Not technically asteroids. Chiron is classed as a minor planet and Ceres as a dwarf planet.
