RANDOM DASHBOARD INSPECTION!
FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH (2024) dev. Square Enix
The Rwanda bill has been passed. People seeking asylum in the UK are no longer safe. This bill has been criticised by many human rights groups, yet parliment have still decided to go ahead with it. People are seeking safety in the UK, and are being turned away. Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.". The Rwanda bill prevents this. There is no conformation that people sent to Rwanda will be safe there. This is a blatant violation of human rights. Asylum seekers are human too, and they should be treated as such.
The bill restricts asylum seekers’ abilities to challenge the policy as a whole, or to challenge the notion that Rwanda is safe, but there may be room for a legal challenge based on their own personal circumstances - such as a history of trafficking, or being LGBTQ+. After being notified of their removal to Rwanda, an asylum seeker would have seven days to seek to appeal their deportation. A proportion of these appeals will go to the upper immigration tribunal, which then must determine each case within 22 days. The government has recruited a pool of judges to deal with these appeals so that flights can get off the ground in the summer. These individual challenges could in theory be taken all the way to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), where judges could then issue a ruling that the deportation of that person would be unlawful. Countries signed up to the ECHR are not bound by these rulings, even though they very rarely ignore them. Mr Sunak has already indicated that he will ignore any ECHR ruling that tries to stop flights to Rwanda. The civil service union, the FDA, is also considering a legal challenge to the bill . General secretary Dave Penman said the bill left civil servants “in an invidious position, where a minister could instruct them to break international law but their professional obligation, as set out in the civil service code, prohibits them from doing so.” Mr Sunak said civil servants must deliver instructions from ministers to ignore ECHR rulings. He said he had amended guidance for civil servants to make it clear that they need to follow directions from ministers, even if the directions go against international law.
all the information is on the task
something that's been sitting with me a lot is how the argument to let Predathos out - the one Liliana keeps repeating - is how *right* it feels to be in his presence. how *right* it feels to be here, on the moon, working towards his release, and how this must mean that he doesn't have ill will towards the people of the planet above. this must be good, she seems to say, because why else would I feel so complete? but all I can think is anything that makes you that sure, that's not something that can be trusted. that feeling is a drug, and it is dangerous. of course Predathos wants to make you feel like you're a part of something good and correct and right, because he needs your loyalty. he needs you willing to give yourselves over to him.
that's not freedom, that's another form of subjugation.
It's hard for me to fathom why you think that whatever comes next isn't bad.
+bonus:
"...and I pull out the stone, and reach out to Dorian."
When BoJack Horseman (2014-2020) said "you can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it ok. you need to be better" and "all we have are the connections we make" and "I really should've thought about the view from halfway down" and "sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own happiness" and "you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, you turn yourself around, THAT'S what it's all about" and "things have to get worse before they can get better" and "in real life, the big gesture isn't enough, you need to be consistent" and "if we hadn't met each other until now, we wouldn't be the people we are now" and, my personal favourite, "every day it gets a little easier, but you gotta do it every day, that's the hard part, but it does get easier".
All I want...is one thing. To keep the others safe. They mean so much to me. So, please...tell me how to do that. I'm begging you.
FINAL FANTASY VII: REBIRTH (2024) SQUARE ENIX
I finished my rewatch/relisten of the Vox Machina campaign in mid-December (although I recently re-embarked on the second half of the Chroma Conclave arc hoping season 3 of TLVOM will be announced (released?? 🤞) by the time I reach "A Bard's Lament"). Predictably, I bawled, AGAIN, but by then I'd already been scribbling and sketching ideas for this for... a couple of weeks? Hence the little WIP preview last month.
I'll never shut up about this moment. It's just as beautiful as it's heartbreaking, in- and off-game, especially taking into account all the context of characters/people involved.
Also, bonus, because after I finished sketching that 6th frame I thought a hug was needed.
"You broke my heart." and all of ours as well 💔
#look there's been many incredible moments in cr. but in my opinion nothing has topped the sheer weight of this one.#like. sam had a secret plan bc sam always has a secret plan#he's a really clever player and scanlan thrives on being able to pull out something crazy in the nick of time#and throughout this fight he is SO careful and SO clever#he's constantly maneuvering himself to perfectly block vecna's attacks without matt realising#but he uses his 7th level countering vecna's feeblemind on marisha - bc if they lose keyleth they lose the fight#his 8th counters vecna's banishment on pike and grog#bc if they lose grog they don't have all the trammels and their ability to banish vecna goes way down#and then there's the teleport. and sam hasn't even told everyone his secret plan but he knows he can't use his 9th#bc he needs to use that wish after this fight but before the raven queen comes for vax for this to work - he cannot wait another day#but teleport is 7th level. if he counters with any other remaining spell slot it's gonna come down to a dice roll#a single roll where if you lose vecna wins the whole world. and even then he asks. is it worth it.#they don't know the actual question they're answering but it's 'is saving the world worth losing vax'. and of course vax would say yes#but there's a moment where everyone is celebrating that scanlan still had a 9th level. and no one's realised yet why sam is mourning#and it KILLS me (tags via @your-turn-to-role)
Twenty years ago, February 15th, 2004, I got married for the first time.
It was twenty years earlier than I ever expected to.
To celebrate/comemorate the date, I'm sitting down to write out everything I remember as I remember it. No checking all the pictures I took or all the times I've written about this before. I'm not going to turn to my husband (of twenty years, how the f'ing hell) to remember a detail for me.
This is not a 100% accurate recounting of that first wild weekend in San Francisco. But it -is- a 100% accurate recounting of how I remember it today, twenty years after the fact.
Join me below, if you would.
when i'm trying not to say watch more movies but their top 4 looks something like this
poetry and musical theater get similar accusations leveled at them in terms of not being realistic, i.e. “no one fucking talks like that” or “people don’t randomly burst into song in real life” and sometimes i just want to take people by the shoulders and say. there are forms of art that are not aiming for perfect realism. are you capable of handling that
some people have interpreted this to mean “fuck realism, all my homies hate realism” which is not what i said, actually. i love art that deals in realism. i also love art that doesn’t. realism is a choice—one tool in the toolbox of making art. like i said in the tags of this post when i made it, the main question is this: can you engage with art based on what it is trying to do, rather than what you think it should do?
DOCTOR WHO 2x01 New Earth
He's slim, and a little bit foxy. You've thought so too. I've been inside your head. You've been looking. You like it.
