In Paper Mario: Color Splash, there is an event in Toad Trainworks where Mario enters a “battle” against twelve Toads that simply consists of each of them complaining about something to him, dealing 1 damage each. After they each complain once, the battle automatically ends. However, due to it dealing a total of 12 points of damage, it is actually possible for Mario to die if he enters this battle with less than 12 health.

This reveals an oversight whereby the game briefly acts like the battle has ended in the intended way, with the first Toad saying “Ah, I feel so much better now!” and the scene seemingly about to end before Mario suddenly dies.
