the fact vegans think they can be appropriated is the funniest fucking thing i’ve heard in my life

I need to know what happened after “you absolute fuck”

That they think tofu is specifically for them and not, like, a 2000 year old Chinese dish/ingredient/food (depending on how you cook it and what you’re using it for) that’s become popular worldwide is absolutely fucking baffling

Why do vegan pastries have the taste/texture of chalk?? :

Might be because of lack of dairy like butter or milk which tends to make pastries more creamy-Wednesday

Vegan is not an option for my autoimmune disease

I am vegan 6 out of 7 days per week. I never have any dairy. However, I have an autoimmune disease that causes very severe flares if I don't eat some form of non-dairy animal matter. From what scientists know currently (which isn't much) the flares occur because of vitamins/minerals not being processed by my body correctly. I have tried pharmaceutical supplementation which made me sick constantly and was expensive to the point my entire monthly income went to medical bills which I cannot do long-term. It is easier, safer and cheaper to just have some meat. Even in my mild flares, I can only eat eggs, tuna, chicken, chicken broth, sometimes turkey. Sometimes I have to go several days on only bone broths or non-vegan medical shakes (if I can even keep those down). It has been suggested to me by 2 registered dietitians and 4 gastroenterologists to cut out wheat, legumes, most fruits and vegetables, and dairy for life. What does that leave? Meat. It leaves mostly meat. Which I won't do but do have to admit, my once a week tactic has helped so much. It is ableist to say "everyone should go vegan!." Many people cannot do so due to their health.  I know many people that keep trying to tell me to go vegan 24/7 again (I did this for a decade) because of "inflammation." This is not how my body works. Not all autoimmune diseases are created equal.  I love all animals and I hate eating meat. I lose sleep over this a lot. It is a major ethical issue in my faith as well. So please stop assuming we all eat meat for fun.

Can’t believe I am JUST finding this blog, I’m an autistic vegetarian who loves animals but can’t go vegan because of sensory issues and the fact that most of my same foods are dairy based

This isn't an example of ableism, but I thought it was a good example of compromise?

I have a vegan friend who is pregnant. She was worried about getting her baby everything it needed, and talked a lot with her husband. (He is not vegan.) She didn't want to give up veganism, even for the pregnancy, but her doctor thought it was best.

Her husband offered to go vegan during her pregnancy for her. That way, the same amount of animal products would be eaten, instead of her + the world. He has lasted 3 months already, and she gets to show him what being vegan is like.

Remember that there are no natural vegetables or fruit that have B12. Vegans have to eat fortified foods (food that has added B12 to it like certain soy milk, mock meats etc). You can’t survive solely on vegetables and fruit because you can’t get B12 from it

-Wednesday (I am vegan, I know how this works)

I have to be vegan. Animal proteins cause my autoimmune disease to flair. I’m already using a cane on good days, on days when I “slip up” or am accidentally given non vegan food I can barely function due to the severe pain and fatigue. I get you aren’t targeting people like me, just adding another queer disabled woman’s perspective. I experience a different type of ableism, having to justifying my diet by revealing my medical info thanks to asshole vegans.

That makes sense! I personally am vegan so I see where you’re coming from but the other mod isn’t and everyone has their personal reasons for their diets/lifestyles

If your vegan “activism” involves holocaust comparisons you owe me a $50 Amazon gift card and a 2,000 word essay explaining why you think Jews are comparable to cattle Goyim reblog (esp. if you’re vegan)

guys this is important

Hey there - just as a heads up, the info in your about/FAQ is inconsistent; you mention several times that you're not physically disabled, but at the last question you say that you are. I'm not trying to attack you - just trying to make you aware of the inconsistency. (Love this blog btw, just came across it and A+++, thank you for making it!)

There are two mods on here. I am physically disabled, the other mod is not

I prefer veggies over meat. In fact, eating a lot of meat makes me feel queasy (mainly from the way my grandparents cook it) but I would never go vegan. I HATE how a lot of vegans find it shocking that meat-eaters do in fact eat plants too. (Mainly my great uncle jeff, he's one of THOSE vegans, but he's a nice guy otherwise

Exactly, vegetables is free for all

I've never thought of going vegan but if I ever wanted to see one of my riends again I couldn't her nut allergies have been getting increasingly sensitive it started with smell setting her off and now legumes make her throat close up, she would legitimately die if I went vegan and then decided to go visit her.

That makes sense! A lot of vegan things require nuts and legumes

vegans that try to mix their veganism with social justice movements are super ://

whoa its almost as if animal agriculture is harmful! like human rights watch calling factory farms ‘systematic human rights violations!’ like slaughtehrouse work being the most dangerous in america, despite underreporting of injuries due to ¼ of workers being illegal immigrants! like 82% of starving children live where crops are fed to animals which are exported for western consumption’! like the UN stating reducing meat consumption to ‘37.4/kg/capita in 2050 would free estimated 400 million tons of cereal per year for human consumption, enough for 1 billion people’! like meat processors suffering significantly increased mental health problems! like livestock being the leading cause of climate change and water pollution, both having a legally recognized negative impact on human rights! like 663 million people being without clean water when 76 trillion gallons are used in livestock production annually!

vegans mix with social justice movements bc they’re fucking linked.

Actually, I think OP was referring to the gross oversimplification that some vegans make about animal husbandry practices (like comparing artificial insemination to rape) which derail women’s marches to push a political dogma. Or maybe when they try to discredit the BLM movement by saying “well ALL lives matter including animals UWU” Or should we also bring up the numerous times vegans have compared factory farming to the holocaust and never apologized for throwing Jews under the bus. :))))) @agro-carnist @ableist-vegans

Spoiler alert: I’m still struggling with health problems from my childhood eating.

This is super fucking classist because a lot of these items listed are popular foods for poor families and families that live in food deserts. Get fucking real. Maybe spend like 5 minutes off your high horse so you can actually see why these items are so popular to give children.

They are cheap. They are accessible. They are favored by kids. They are easy to eat. Have fun making your kids live on rice and beans instead of giving them age-appropriate foods. Parents not giving their kids enough vegetables is not fucking child abuse and it does not mean being vegan is healthy for them. Most children put on vegan diets suffer deficiencies with permanent effects on their health and can effect their growth and learning. Willingly depriving kids of nutrients they NEED and forcing an ideology on them is child abuse. Fuck this post and fuck everyone who reblogged this uncritically.

Honestly, the only truly “unhealthy” (lacking in any nutritional value) thing I see here is the soda. Like, sure, there can be a lot of sodium and fat in the others, but 1) those are only bad in excess and 2) all the foods still have other nutrients that kids need (protein, iron, carbs, B12, vitamin D, calcium, etc.). Plenty of vegans out there eat this sort of junk, too, and in fact, vegan versions of all of these exist.
