I love gino and I felt he was underrated. Kougami was overrated. Even Word of god says that he is just as good as Kougami but is being handicapped by his fear to cloud his psychopass that he acts a bit of a jerk to the enforcer and other. Actually, he truly begins to shine as he becomes an enforcer since he no longer carries all those worries. Plus he is hot as hell without his glasses. He felt betrayed by his dad but became a detective just to be able to see him again.
Gino is hot with his glasses. He’s hot without his glasses. He’s hot when he’s a bit underfed and in a stuffy suit. He’s hot when he’s bulked up with nothing but a tank top and a glass of scotch. And he’s stupid hot with that ponytail.
I can’t believe the hottest fucking character in the show hates his own face. Urobuchi Gen is known for writing tragedies, but damn, that’s beyond tragic in my opinion.
I think what I love about the Extended Edition is that you get to see more facets of Gino’s personality. I wrote this in a post that I’m going to copy to another ask here in a second. In the the standard version of S1, you get the impression that he’s obstructing Kougami for reasons that are rather inscrutable. In the Extended Edition, you realize that he really, really doesn’t want Kougami to end up in an Isolation Facility. He also doesn’t want Akane to risk her hue. To her it seems silly, but remember that Gino’s lost two people to hue deterioration; he doesn’t want to lose a third. And you also realize that he really does think Akane is a good, competent Inspector, even though he gives her that little “history and fools” speech in Episode 2.
But I agree, I love Gino in S2 and I love the Gino that punched the fuck out of Kougami (but didn’t use his bionic arm). I think you’re right: Gino was so worn thin by worrying over everyone – his Inspector colleague, his Enforcers – that he tried desperately to maintain some level of control during the Makishima Case. But unfortunately, that case was chaos through and through. As an Enforcer, he’s not solely responsible for his team. I think that means he’s allowed to be Gino, and not Inspector Ginoza. And he’s downright husband material, isn’t he? So thoughtful and warm (we *never* get that in S1), and protective.
But let’s be real. I thought Gino was Daddy AF since Episode 1.
