I think a lot...about howwww there have been some true changes in plus size clothing in the last ten or so years. I have to say if i had the options I have at Modcloth now, as 14 year old chubby jean-and-band-tshirt-wearing me, then maybe my perception of myself would have improved at a younger age.
I feel like that might sound so silly if you’re not forever fat...but then you probably also don’t have strong memories of the first time you found cute clothes that would fit
(light wash jeans, with a thick white stripe going down both sides with a thinner black stripe in the middle of the white one)
My point is that yes I acknowledge that these options have improved, but there are times when I see those dresses on Modcloth and I know instantly that it’s in the plus size section (excuse me, extended sizes, but that’s an issue for another day) only because it goes up to a size sixteen.

Like these are typically the kind of dresses that s t a n d o u t.
They have extra seams, better structure, and unique fabrics.
They are well thought out and well designed.
As far as mainstream plus size fashion goes (I’m talking Lane Bryant, Torrid, Asos Curve, etc ) there really isn’t much of this.
Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part fashion trends are passed down to plus size, they are not created there.
And this is so frustrating! Because damn it’s like can’t one of these giant companies put some care into the clothes I want to buy? Treat it like something you actually care about and then I might be a bit impressed.
Anyway to end this rant* on a positive note, I think right now things will keep getting better and more interesting on the fatshion front. I am truly excited to see what Ashley Nell Tipton winning Project Runway will bring about as far as her clothing line is concerned and as well as other designers/companies.
