I wonder if the poor spat production/recruitment over the last two years is also found in the Lynnhaven? Do we know?
The Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries have had a couple years of rather poor spat sets that bode a leaner harvest for the 2015-16 season that begins in the fall. A spat set is when oyster larvae attach to bottom shell so they can survive and grow to market-size.

"Elizabeth River 1994" The tubs were full and there were still crabs on the deck. This was back when 100 pots was all you needed because every 10-15 pots you pulled made a bushel for market. Save Oyster Shell always! Signage & drop off center at Brock Center in Ocean Park.
Almost to cold to drink the props on Friday. Almost.
Mom Ludford braved the cold predawn temps to deliver a hot tasty breakfast and coffee.
We then headed out to into the Lynnhaven to select some oysters for brewing.
Patrick of Benevolent Design worked on staging an unstaged beer & oyster photo shoot.
John of Back Bay Brewing Company attempted to keep the precious Growlers from freezing.
Rex tried convincing us it's considered work taking people out on their own beer and oyster tasting tours with Taste Tidewater Tours.
Travis of Back Bay Brewing, Chris & Tim survived on oysters and beer.
All of the props were successfully slurped down.
