Keep Calm with Books and Coffee

@keepcalmbooksandcoffee / keepcalmbooksandcoffee.tumblr.com

I like books and coffee. I read a lot of YA especially fantasy of the epic and urban varieties. Also some adult fiction and non-fiction because I love history. Check out my blog, youtube or Goodreads for more. This is NOT a spoiler free blog.

A Mid Year Stats and Goals Update

Howdy,

Welcome to a mid year goals update and some stats. I’m adjusting my reading goals from the beginning of the year since...things have gone differently than I planned. In some ways things are better and some not so much.

A June Wrap Up

Hey friends. I’m going to try to be more active on this blog. Its been a long long time since I did anything more than reblog on this site so I’m a bit rusty. I mostly post on IG and Youtube these days so you can find me there as well. Today I’m wrapping up my June reading

It was a good reading month and I enjoyed all the books I finished. Full thoughts in the video.

books read in 2021 - [3/?] Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. DanforthThis world where they’d spread their blanket, this moment beneath the heavy apple boughs, in the golden light, was too beautiful by half. And it would not last. And our three heroines knew this.

Just one sting will make us smart. With two, we might be brave.

Three will buzz inside our hearts. With more, we’re in the grave.

Ophelia: I'm engaged to a stranger on the other side of the world, who's family hates him, who's family's rivals hate him - both of which would like to hurt me just to fuck with him - all for some political gain I don't understand and no one will explain
Ophelia: but hey, at least the guy isn't interested in me either!
Thorn: *falls in love with Ophelia*
Ophelia: ... ok actually fuck this

“A gambler, a convict, a wayward son, a lost Grisha, a Suli girl who had become a killer, a boy from the Barrel who had become something worse.”

The Crows at the beginning of Six of Crows and at the end of Crooked Kingdom. I wanted to draw hands and it grew into something more. The designs are inspired by both the show and the books.

ID under the cut.

BLUSEY WEDDING DAY (incorrect quote from this is us):

ronan: she's just going over her vows.

gansey: she's probably getting nervous 'cause she knows mine are gonna be epic. been perfecting these bad boys all week.

adam: *about the vows* how-how long are those?

gansey: i don't know. like, five, six minutes?

adam: okay? but this is, uh, 12-point, single-spaced.

ronan: she's gonna die of old age before you finish it if you read that to her.

gansey: i guess they could use some cuts.

adam: we'll start from the beginning, okay, and we'll see what we can trim.

gansey: "greek philosopher plato defined marriage as a conceptual agreement between two. a prominent institution regulating..."

ronan: don't care. cut it.

gansey: okay. um, how about this? Um... "a deconstruction of prince's 1991 album diamonds and pearls reveals that this will be the day that you..."

ronan: oh, cut that. cut that.

adam: just go to the time where you start talking about blue. start from there.

gansey: okay. um... okay, guys, i... i don't think i wrote vows. i think i wrote a deeply boring dissertation on marriage.

“Leave other people alone in the way that they live their lives that you don’t understand. If you want to really know about those people, come to them in friendship! Sit down and let them tell you what their lives are like. But don’t just jump up and holler, “She’s wearing this,” and, “He’s wearing that.” Sit down with a transgender person and let them tell you what their life is like. Sit down with a gay person and let them tell you what life is like for them. Sit with a lesbian and let her tell you about the nature of her life, and what she goes through. How can you judge when you don’t know what it’s about?”
