“nnnnnnnggggg—” She’s absolutely stiff    and a little numb  through her legs– ( That was a nasty fall– ) “……. Is everywhere a good answer— Just– Just gimme a minute… let me– hmmm… uhm…. Here, help me stand up, please? Can’t feel my legs right now..”

He laughs gently and smiles down on the little girl, hand running absentmindedly through his thick hair. “Me? Oh no… I’m always fine.” He pauses, pondering. “Par the time they dropped a brick wall on me but other than that.” He chuckles to himself, continuing to check her for any sign of bruising. He wasn’t entirely sure on her word, strong as she may seem.

[ Head tilts ]     In quiet thought,     as Cynder taps her chin with a finger, curiously.  ( Her back and tailbone still aches, but she’s not bad )  “— A whole brick wall? Ow—       Hey–hey, I’m fine, really~  I’ve been thrown off horses worse than this, it’s no big deal–    trust  me, Billy-Ray can vouch for that–     Thanks for helping me up…… and for, uh..   not laughing at seeing me fall that bad…..     most people would make fun of me.    The name’s Cynder Dustypaws, sir~ Good to meet you~”

He smiles politely at the girl, head tilting down to catch her eyes, the big orbs that they are. An innocent, sweet soul she is. He was glad she had men queuing up to look after her. He offers his hand, smile perking his lips. "Saracen Rue, and it's honestly fine. What gentleman would I call myself if I had of laughed?"

"Full moon tonight Rue," Elise commented as she was in the kitchen, making drink for the pair. Her attention however soon turned to some figures approaching the house. "And for some reason we have visitors."

He looks up from his book, the lamp light flickering generously as he turns the page. His eyes move to the window beside him and, sure as she says, the figures reach the door. There are two curt knocks. Saracen rises from his seat, feeling his niece move from the kitchen. His throat goes dry and he yells back. “Elise. I’ll have sugar with my tea.” He wants to seem calm towards these visitors, he can sense the menace, but equally wants to keep his little girl away from that door.

There’s a grunt from him, a twitch in his figure as his head moves to catch her in his peripheral vision before quickly meeting the eyes of the men behind the door. There’s a inaudible mumble between the two, a swallow from the adept and a gun pressed to his chest. His eyes widen, flitting to his niece as he whispers. “You got what you want from them? What do you want from me?”

Elise began to worry as she got up from the sofa and slowly moved to the curtains. Faye’s growling got louder, as it blocked out the gun-clicking Elise would have heard. Pulling back the curtain, there stood two men who tried to advance on her, to which she moved back and back-flipped over the coffee-table. “RUE!”

His head turns rapidly to the cry, hand clutching the gullet of the gun on his chest and turning it upwards as it’s fired. The bullet ricochets off the ceiling and hits the door with a crack, a stinging burn of the gun’s heat causing Rue to cry out and throw a blind kick at his attacks as they advance through the door. He stumbles back and clutches his hand, throwing a punch with the other. “ELISE RUN!”

“I can’t do that right now!” Elise called back as she dodged the men’s punches easily as they constantly tried to aim for her face. They weren’t very good, as Elise grabbed one and threw him over her back, sending him into a wall.

There's a crash from behind him, his head tilting in the direction of it as he timingly dodges a blow. He cries out, moving to the dresser and taking out a handgun that's covered over with yellow pages. He loads it quickly and points it in the direction of the men. "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!"

He glumly and half heartedly knocks on the tailor's back door, the sound echoing clearly throughout his empty backroom. It's a cold night, the Dead Man's agenda lonely and neglected. One thing is on his mind. He presses his head to the door, self pitying tears filling his eyes as he abandons his idea and turns to the night.

Ghastly heard the soft knock of the door and quickly flicked the stovetop down to the lowest heat setting before trotting out to the rear door to pull it open and … Pause.

Empty.

A few steps towards the mouth of the partking bay and one could never forget that silhouette.

“Saracen? Whats wrong?” he asked, inching a little closer with a hand held out.

Avatar

He smiled at the man, taking the mug to his cold chest and heating his torso with the hot liquid. He shivered, partly out of the temperature change, and curled his shoulders close. Afraid. “They wanted me to kill someone. Someone… Dear to me. So I… I double crossed them.” He sipped his drink, setting it down to rub his tired eyes. “…. I deceived them for a while but it was never going to work.”

Alright, so they asked him to kill a loved one in return for sparing another. Wasn’t uncommon, if he could find out who and therefore crosscheck who had a grudge on both they and Elise, he could start looking for culprits.

“Who did they ask you to kill, Roo?”

He brings the bottle closer, eyes not meeting the tailors as hh hey flit anxiously around the room. He would have to tell ghastly, there was no way around it. He couldn't hide it and the longer he did the more danger he would be in. The more danger everyone would be in. "They asked me to kill you, Ghastly." His eyes return to the tailors.

He’s already there beside the girl and lifting her up with a hulking arm around her waist. She’s lighter than expected, his initial force fading as his eyes glide over her to check for injuries. “Nasty fall you had there.” He looks up to her eyes “Sure you don’t need to lie down?”

With the help getting up ( whoo was he strong or what? )  Cynder took a moment to brace herself,  getting over the tingling numbness and crippling pain    in her hips and back and tailbone.      “—- Nng—- not the wost, though. I’ll be fine.”  [ Actually this is horribly similar to falling off a horse. ]    “Had worse crashes than that, I’ll be fine–  See, still in working condition~    No blood, no bones–  Just… a bit bruised I think…  are you okay?”

He laughs gently and smiles down on the little girl, hand running absentmindedly through his thick hair. "Me? Oh no... I'm always fine." He pauses, pondering. Elise was going to answer but Rue stopped her, making her turn back. Whispers was listening from the landing just outside of the kitchen, along with Faye. It was a new presence and scent for the spirit of the puppy; and it was putting them both on edge.

“Yeah, yeah I know how you make it…” Elise brushed it off, thinking it could just be an old friend of Rue’s. “You have to answer it though.”

He grunts a little in reply, pacing towards the door and opening it to the lock so the chain hangs over and prevents the tall, dark men from entering his home. “Gentlemen.” He states, eying up them both.

Not suspecting anything, Elise continued to make the drinks and placed them down at the coffee table before relaxing into the sofa. However she noticed two shadows behind the window curtains. “Rue…?”

What she says: I'm fine.
What she means: We have no idea what happened to either Dexter Vex nor Saracen Rue after the Dying of the Light. We won't ever know if Dexter is a remnant or whether Saracen is alive or dead - by the way, WHAT THE HECK IS HIS POWER?? - or if Valkyrie's sister has magic, and it's killing me, eating me up slowly from the inside.
