I kind of love that one of Jane Austen's biggest fans was the Prince Regent (later George IV). She didn't think very well of the nobility in general, but she motherfucking hated him, a wastrel who very flagrantly cheated on his wife.

But he loved her writing, was the first recorded purchaser of Sense and Sensibility, and kept copies of her books in all his residences. She never made enough from her writing to live on during her lifetime, so this wasn't support she could casually toss aside. His librarian kept suggesting ideas for new books to her, which she turned down with exquisite politeness. Much to her aggravation, she found herself obliged to dedicate Emma to the man.

pomodoro technique 101

Hi it’s werelivingarts, I return to school already and I can feel that homework start running in…

Pomodoro technique is such a popular and efficient way to organize and manage your time, no matter if you are studying or working. Keep in mind that this is not ‘ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL’, this may not a suitable method for people who have ADHD.

Hoping that the graphics can provide you some helpful hacks! 😉❤️

girls!!! we gotta fail more often!!! we’re so scared of failure and disappointing people and looking stupid that we don’t even TRY things! men?? men brush off failure like it’s nothing! if a man doesn’t get a job he wanted, it’s because they didn’t review his application fairly! it’s because the competition was tough this year! it’s because he just needs to try harder next time! men just DO things!!! and you know what DOING things builds?? confidence!!! even if you fail!! the more you fail, the more confident you are that you can fail and survive! women don’t even wanna try unless they are 100% certain that they’re qualified and competent and won’t disappoint anybody! but that is NONSENSE. men are out there getting positions they’re not even qualified for, while over-qualified but less-confident women are staying where it’s safe bc they’re afraid to rock the boat!!! DO. IT. apply for the thing! ask for the raise! enter the competition! get used to failing ALL the time! fail quickly and move on!!! if a cocky but mediocre man would do it, then for the love of god, GO DO THE DAMN THING. you are SO much more qualified than you think you are.

Daily Routine

Hello everyone, For everyone who doesn’t have a morning/ daily routine but wants to get one THIS IS THE SIGN TO DO IT. I created a daily routine over the first lock down almost a year ago and it helped me a lot with my mental health. It also saved me from procrastinating and made me get shit done. But I lost this routine when I had to work a full time job last nov/dez. Sooo since I am free again I want to get it back. Don´t forget every person is different and  has different needs. So what works for me might not work for you. (A little Tipp: Maybe I’m just weird, but it motivates me, to get stuff done, when I write it down. Maybe you can try that too. And it helps me to memorise it better, so i don’t get it mixed up in my head.) Try to stay realistic. For example I started with only 2 points on my list: 8am: wake up 10am: work out and then slowly add things or make a more detailed plan. Doing it like this gives you time to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. After half a year I endet up with this plan: am: 07:00 waking up 07:30 getting up, making bed, making lemon water, 08:00 breakfast, getting ready, planing the day, cleaning up, reading 10 - 12 workout pm: 12:00 start being produktive 09:30 getting ready for bed 10:00 going to bed, reading 11:00 sleep (Don’t forget: You don’t have to get up early to get stuff done or be produktive. If a later time works better for you that’s totally fine.) I’m really not a morning person but I figured that I am way more motivated, to be productive, when I get up early. And to be honest, it’s going to be a pain in the ass, to wake up this early for at least 2 weeks, till my body gets used to the sleep rhythm again. Most of the times the actual routine looks a little different in rl than on the paper. Because sometimes you have to adjust some points or maybe even shift it a little around, so it fits better in your daily life. Just try it out for a while. Never forget: Don´t give up; give it some time and adjust it to your liking/needs.

attention management

Hi, it’s werelivingarts again. During online school, I find it extremely hard to concentrate on schoolwork since there are so many distractions on laptops, phones and even in your home. Sometimes, you have plan to work but your brain won’t collaborate, so here is some tips to help you with attention management. 😊

This post is based on James Clear’s Guide to Productivity and Real Simple’s Attention Management. I also made a video behind the scene of designing this post, you can see it here.

5/03/2021 I took a break from social media after such a busy month I had to reduce my phone usage, hence the disappearance! I’m currently making maps for my Urban Design: Place Making module and its kind of lonely work, so I’ve made some new spotify playlists to get through it. Hope everyone had a nice February - the lockdown was getting quite hard for me! x Emily

02.03.21 / The spring semester started last week, but I took my first lesson of this semester this morning. It’s called Industrial and Organizational Psychology. I have no interest in this area but despite that, I am very excited about it because it's one of my favorite professors' lecture. He said he will mostly talk about his life experiences in order to we could inspire by them. It has already very inspirational the first lecture.

My professor talked about the "Pygmalion Effect" today. Many of us know that effect because it has very popular in Psychology and many other areas. I want to shortly and quickly tell you about it.

Probably you heard something about the self-affirming prophecy. This effect basically tells us "the targets of the expectations internalize their positive labels, and those with positive labels succeed accordingly; a similar process works in the opposite direction in the case of low expectations." This means what your thoughts and expectations shaped your potential. That is, our thoughts affect our actions and our actions determine the outcome.

I believe that knowing that we are enough and we have the potential to accomplish many things has an effect that can quickly grow like a snowball.

I wanted to share this with you because I think we could use this exceptional psychological knowledge in our daily life to boost our motivation to believe in ourselves. There are always much more possibility than we could see now. I hope it works for you!

From Beginner to Intermediate: an intense plan for advancing in language

Introduction

I've studied Spanish at school for 3 years and now I'm at a low B1 level. I can actually understand pretty well while listening or reading but I can't communicate fluently.

This plan will include vocabulary build up, some grammar revision, a lot of listening, reading and writing. And could be used for the most languages, not only Spanish.

Plan

Every day:

  • Conjugate one verb in present, past and future tenses
  • Make a list about 10 - 30 words long
  • Create flashcards with them and start learning them (I use Quizlet for flashcards)
  • Revise yesterday's set of flashcards

2-3 times a week:

  • Read an article or a few pages from a book
  • Write a few sentences about anything in your target language
  • Listen to one episode of podcast (at least one)

Once a week or every two weeks:

  • Watch a movie in your target language, preferably animated movie as the language used there is easier. You can watch with subtitles
  • Grammar exercises
  • Translate some short text

Once a month:

  • Write something longer, like an essay or report, on chosen topic

Additionally:

  • Talk to yourself, to your friends, to your pets
  • Text with someone
  • Look at the transcription while listening to the podcast for second time
  • Repeat what you hear (in podcast or movie)
  • Check words you don't know from the listening and reading
  • Read out loud
  • Listen to music in your target language - you can even learn the text and sing along
  • Watch YouTube in your target language
  • Change your phone language to the one you're learning
  • Think in you target language!!!

***This is very intense plan for self-learners, you don't have to do all of these things in the given time. Adjust it to your own pace. I'll try to stick to this, if I have enough time.***
