They had trekked along the forest path for miles, their pace not stopping as they made their way through the trees and more into the city. Armin was surprised that they hadn’t ran into many zombies during their journey, and he didn’t even need to fire a single bullet. He had definitely raised his gun during each time, the metal clicking as his finger trembled on the trigger, but by the time it was ready, Mikasa had already sliced the creatures apart.
It was relaxing, in a way, to be able to travel without having to run into too many dangers.
“I’m fine,” The blond replied, keeping his gun lowered. The sounds of leaves shuffling behind him instantly caught his attention, and like a startled deer, Armin flinched, head shooting upwards as cerulean eyes looked at his surroundings.
From all sides, rotting creatures stumbled towards them, groaning inhumanely as their hunger for human flesh drew them closer to the two. He didn’t even notice the fast, lithe zombie before it nearly snapped at him, disgusting teeth almost biting into his arm. Instantly, the flight technique took over his brain, and the blond soon bolted without a second thought, sprinting through the trees.
A fence lined the border of the trees, standing tall but not enough to impair him from jumping over. That wasn’t going to stop him anyway. Taking a deep breath, Armin leapt, hoping to make it over the wooden structure. His eyes widened as he felt his foot catch the top of the fence, flipping him over and crashing him to the ground, smashing his arm on the rocky ground, his gun sent flying from his grip.
As excruciating pain shot up the length of his arm, he rolled onto his back, biting his lip to try and stop himself from screaming.
Mikasa nodded as he replied, nibbling at her lip. She suddenly whipped around upon hearing noises, seeing the dead slowly shamble out from alleyways, inside buildings, and the woods at the edge of town.
Mikasa didn’t have time to see where Armin went, chopping off the head of two zombies in one strong swing. She killed several more before scaling the side of a small foreign grocery store, climbing onto the roof. Her heart practically stopped, noticing that Armin was gone.
Her eyes searched the horde frantically, which gathered at the base of the building she was on. Tears welled in her eyes. Had he went and hidden in one of the buildings? Mikasa pulled one of her last resort items from her bag, a small can of gasoline, which she uncapped and threw off the side of the building under a vacant car, lighting a flare and throwing it into the gas, causing the car to explode, which distracted the zombies for long enough that she could jump down onto a dumpster on the side of the building and book it through the store, checking everywhere for the blond.
She searched through that store before she began to look in the woods, seeing the fence, and... oh my god. Armin. She jumped over the fence, grabbing him into her arms and cradling him close, beginning to sob.
