These Muslim women are using their hijabs to transform into superheroes.

It’s called hijab cosplay, inspired by Japanese costume role-play and it’s making waves in Muslim-majority Malaysia.

Nuzaru is one of a growing number of hijab wearers embracing this world of comics, film and video game characters.

She spends weeks planning her costumes.

Today Nuzaru is competing at Malaysia’s first event dedicated to hijab cosplay.

Saakira co-founded the event.

Hundreds are here to watch acts and learn tips from cosplay pros.

Nuzaru’s hard work pays off as she nabs top prize.

I was thinking earlier about gender bends in cosplay - because I’m in the preliminary stages of working on one (need more money, need to buy a wig for Mrs Peel first dang it).

Which may seem irrelevant, but one of the things cosplay gives us is the ability to not look like our character, but make our character look like us. (Not saying I don’t respect the skill of people who choose characters they look like and can walk on a stage looking like they stepped out of a panel or a frame, but…)

This is the same thing. Making a character your own by shifting it towards who you are.

I’ve honestly always loved how happy Malaysian Muslims look and how they wrap their identities all around Islam and their hijab rather than treating it like an obstacle– even just looking under the Doraemon tag, SO many are these happy Malasyain ladies in blue and white Doraemon-coloured headscarves taking pictures at Doraemon museums and stuff, they’re just so cute and unabashedly themselves, it’s really sweet to see.

Like you can tell exactly what character they’re going for, I’ve seen some really amazing hijabi cosplayers and Lolita girls (I remember a lot of positive reception from Japanese twitter too, of hijabi Lolita) too!!

I really love the ones who use colourful scarves to convey the character’s hair colour, it’s so cute???

My hometown (Balikpapan) was literally accros the sea from this city. when this happened, some of my friends told me they could actually feel the earthquack from there.

It was started with 7,7 magnitude earthquack and continued with a 10-18 Feet tsunami. So far it’s been reported that 384 died and 540 Injured, research still continues.

My sympathy goes to the people from Palu, Danggola & Mamuju, especially to the families of those who have lost their lives, to the injured and to all who have been affected by this terrible disaster

Emergency crews are still trying to find victims of an earthquake and tsunami that struck Indonesia’s island of Sulawesi, killing at least 1,200 people, according to local media citing government officials.

The death toll could rise even higher, officials warn, as workers clear debris, rubble and vehicles that were swept away by a massive wave of seawater on Friday.

The tsunami was triggered by a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck along the coastal district of Donggala on Friday. Most of the dead were found in nearby Palu, a city of nearly 300,000 where an onlooker took a video of the seawater raging ashore just after 5 p.m., local time.

Relief and rescue efforts have been hampered by communication and transportation problems in the stricken region. The damage caused landslides and forced Palu’s international airport to close for at least one full day.

Mini Goku Defense Post

Okay, so I decided to read the manga once again (the original), and of course I had to make a short post defending goku after reading the Raditz Saga.

I believe this ONE page is enough to make my point. So I separeted just a few panels of this page in particular.

1- Please, pay attention to the way Raditz formulate his question

2- Goku’s Answer

Now THIS is really important! The way Goku is being told to as a character lately simple states that all he cares is going after powerful opponents, that he dont care about Chichi and his sons, but yet, in here he clearly make his point that all he wants is Gohan back. Goku knows about Gohan’s inner power and that he is fine. But yet his answer for the reason he went after Raditz wasnt “Because I want to fight strong opponents”, but instead “To take back my son!!”.

3- The Impatience

How many times have we seen Goku act like this?  He is a calm person, to piss Goku off it takes a lot of effort and messing with the wrong people.  Its true that he wants to become stronger and face tough enemies. But he has never forgot those that are dear to him.  And just to finish this post. As ever a man that dont care act like this? …No. I dont think so. Period.

Shout Out to Dragon Ball fans

When you’re reading the Dragon Ball manga, anime filler isn’t canon.

When you’re watching the Dragon Ball anime, anime filler is canon.

It’s literally that simple.

Anime filler, aside from occasionally coming directly from rough ideas of Toriyama’s (like a certain sequel series people wanna call canon, HMMM), was written by and approved by the same crew of writers who adapted the manga into an anime. 

Two very different mediums requiring different storytelling techniques. 

When you’re watching the Lord of the Rings films, Aragorn getting Andruil in Return of the King is still canon, even if when you’re reading the books, he has it the whole time. 

So when you’re watching this -

Doesn’t matter if you like it, dislike it, support it, or disagree with it. And it certainly doesn’t matter what some cheap, cash in spin off, produced two decades later, with almost none of the original staff, has to say about it.

Even His Most Holiest Toriyama-Sama doesn’t have a say in it. The anime was produced by literally dozens of men and women with equal talent to the original author’s, and this constant cherry picking of their work is a garbage way to watch their collective masterpiece.
