Blog Action Day 2015 is on October 16

Join us, #RaiseYourVoice and take part in Blog Action Day on October 16.

2015 has seen unprecedented attacks on those who publish their ideas online. This Blog Action Day we celebrate those heroes who raise their voice when faced with censorship, threats, and violence.

We will raise our voices to defend their right to raise theirs.

On October 16, we invite you to speak out with others around the world, as we support those who cannot do so safely.

 To showcase the power of our words, images, designs, videos and creativity by sharing our posts, and supporting partner organizations who all aim to protect and celebrate our blogging heroes and their ideas.

You can take part by adding your blog details and joining  the global conversation on your own blog this Blog Action Day, by posting your #RaiseYourVoice post on your blog on October.

The theme for Blog Action Day 2014 is #Inequality.

Inequality comes in many forms and affects individuals and communities in many ways. 

We invite you to talk about what inequality means to you on Blog Action Day October 16, 2014, and if you are stuck for ideas our NGO partners have great tips and ideas to help inspire you. 

Just make sure that you register your blog, vlog, podcast, social media channel so we can find your Blog Action Day post and share it with the community. 

Dear friends,

I'd like to thank you, on behalf of Amnesty International, for exercising one of your fundamental human rights – freedom of expression – on Blog Action Day 2013.

I was amazed by the sheer diversity and number of good blogs posted yesterday, by over 2,400 registered bloggers and close to 2,000 unregistered social media users and other bloggers across 130 countries.

Together, you brought to light dark stories about human rights abuses. You also told many inspirational tales about international activism, solidarity and hope.

Being able to express our opinions online in this way is a powerful weapon in the struggle for universal human rights.

We were proud to be a key Blog Action Day 2013 partner, and to have shared this day with you. Our work to defend human rights continues on the other 364 days of the year.

Please join our movement of over 3 million supporters, members and activists by finding your local Amnesty office, or signing up as an international member.

And please keep blogging. We need to keep pulling together to stop human rights abuses worldwide. Right now, we are pushing for a new law to protect people in Kenya’s slums from being kicked out of their homes. You can help by signing our petition now.

You can also continue to raise your voice online by signing up to the new Human Rights Blogging Network called Orbit, organised by the Blog Action Day team.

To celebrate the Blog Action Day and start a conversation about human rights, I decided to share three short stories from Opportunity International that illustrate what happens when you give people these important rights. Opportunity International provides microfinance loans, savings, insurance and training to over five million people working their way out of poverty in the developing world.
