Add a Mary Jane Watson and a Gwen Stacy tag to you 'In Defense of Mary Jane Watson' post so it would reach more people ;) I've been reading 616 spidey for 14 years now and MJ is my favorite. The fans that say Gwen is a better character have obviously not read the comics and are probably comparing Gwen with RaimiMJ. It doesn't make sense because they're comparing characters from different movieverses (different interpretations of the mythos). It's dumb.

SO THIS GOT INSANELY LONG IT’S BASICALLY MY SPIDER-MAN RANT AGAIN HAHAHAHA

thanks for the tip! but i have a fandom blog (it’s nataliesdormers.tumblr.com btw hehe i post some spidey and comic stuff there) and i pretty much stalk the mary jane watson tag there so i’m afraid  my personal blog might be found hahahah

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH A FELLOW COMICS FAN!!! dear god, it’s our mission to reach out to people and defend MJ. It’s really hard when you’ve been following the Spider-Man comics for a long time, and you get to see stupid opinions by people who haven’t touched the comic and have no sufficient knowledge about MJ.

I like Comic!Gwen, but it’s definitely nowhere similar to Movie!Gwen. (and most of Gwen’s qualities in the films are from MJ. Have you ever imagined Comic!Gwen hitting the Lizard, though? lol. Movie!Gwen is basically just Mary Jane Watson with blonde hair and  knack for science.) and Gwen is basically the epitome of the damsel-in-distress trope who is very submissive to her father, and hated Spider-Man. (There’s nothing wrong about that, but with the swarm of “Gwen fell in love with Peter and MJ only loved Spidey!!!” it’s so problematic uggggh.)

Gwen would probably have been a great character if she didn’t unfortunately died early……but……..compared to Mary Jane Watson?? MJ’s 30 year character development could in no way, match for Gwen. MJ basically became Peter’s confidante and best friend , and she has been so fleshed out as more than just the “hero’s girlfriend” and that’s why i love her. (even though the writers have screwed up MJ over the years lol.)

I, in no way, pit Gwen and MJ against each other yet some people insist on making them some catty rivals for Peter’s heart.  Raimi!MJ had its faults, but there were some moments where Comic!MJ shines through.

The problem though is that most of the people who hate on MJ are actually just Stonefield fans who just want Emma and Andrew to be on-screen. And we probably won’t get to deal with MJ hate if Emma played MJ.

we should probably run a squad titled as Mary Jane Watson Defense Squad 2k14 hahahahaha.

I love it.The defense squad will go well with my Quesada is a Hack / OMD is a Big Ball of Bull squad.

I love love love UltimateGwen (I love how Bendis writes characters) but didn’t care for 616Gwen. I found her and Peter’s relationship so cloying and unhealthy. Not even Spiderman Blue could remedy that impression. Have you read Spiderman Blue? I am one of the few that have not been moved by it.

Granted, 616Peter and MJ didn’t have Gwen and Peter’s whambamangstandromance! thing going on at the start if their relationship, their relationship had this space and carefree quality that allowed the characters to develop outside the relationship. And I love how Conway wrote MJ! Sure, she was with Pete, but she was an interesting character even without him in the panel. She made Spiderman fun! She also made Peter a bit more fun (I recommend Spectacular Annual 7, their Honeymoon Issue, as proof. Tell me if you don’t have it, I’ll scan it for you). Even with the current titles where she hasn’t been a love interest for years, I still enjoy reading about her. This is why I will always think that she has the upper hand vs. other love interests, including Gwen. She’s a stronger character.

Consider this as a reply rant.

Also, there’s no stopping those Stonefield fans so don’t even bother. Gwen just died, they’re grieving. We moved on, we’ve read it long ago. :p

Quesada and Slott should've been boycotted a long time ago lol. Slott completely doesn't know how to write MJ (or Peter, tbh. I've recently read ASM 1.1 and he also completely screwed up J. Jonah Jameson.) and I really don't understand any more good reason than "we need a peter parker who's realistic and not married to a model!! that's what everyone would like!!" when they erased the Peter/MJ marriage.

UltimateGwen is one of my favorites!!! and her friendship with MJ really shined there. (bonus for Kitty Pryde.) 616!Gwen and Peter relationship could be interesting (since Gwen hated Spidey after all) but it was effectively ruined by bad characterization and them not knowing how to write Gwen. All Peter and Gwen did was basically argue and it just dragged out the interest of the readers.

Spider-Man Blue is probably one of my favorites. I think it really showed the relationship with Gwen and Peter very well. The innocent, puppy love relationship. And Peter saying MJ taught him to love again. And MJ's line there where she said "say hello for me and tell Gwen I miss her too." was really touching. It just evidently shows that not only Peter lost Gwen, but MJ too.

Honestly, even though House of M showed that Gwen and Peter got married if she hadn't died, I do not believe for a second that they'd still be together even if her death didn't happen. Gwen would never get to live a life with Peter as Spidey. That's why I think that even if Gwen and Peter had this innocent puppy love going on, it would've ultimately ended because Gwen can probably never accept Spider-Man. That's why Peter/MJ is better. With Peter/MJ, their relationship is the long haul. It's the real one. It's the one with the ups and downs and the real struggles of an actual relationship. (That's why I'm very pissed with Superior Spider-Man. They made MJ, once again, break up their relationship with that stupid "i can't live on with you as Spidey!!" which Mary Jane Watson would never ever do. Come on, they've been married for 25 years, and MJ was settled with Peter and accepted Spider-Man years ago.)

That's probably the reason why I love MJ. She basically shines through outside of Peter/Spidey. She's her own character. I could honestly read a comic series just centering about her. Have you read Parallel Lives and Sensational Spider-Man V2 Annual #1? I really recommend it. Those two really showed the relationship of Peter/MJ perfectly.

My 616 comics is pretty much messed up, so I'd really appreciate the scan!!!

lol idk I'm actually really shocked that some people didn't even know Gwen died since she's basically famous just for her snapped neck. They're probably just grieving that they won't get to see Stonefield on screen, and not because of Gwen. (which i don't understand since they're, after all, dating in RL.)

OH MY GOD. I just want to say that you’re one of my favorite bloggers, so the fact that you messaged me about my spider-man post (which i get really passionate about haha) REALLY means a lot to me.

Honestly, I thought nobody was gonna care about that post, so I’m really happy that I, at least, made a person enlightened about MJ! (i love her to bits and pieces.) A million times thank you!!! :)

In defense of Mary Jane Watson

TASM 2 is now out. I’m basically shielding myself from people who hate on Mary Jane Watson to glorify Gwen Stacy.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND NOW WE’RE GONNA PROCEED WITH: MY FRUSTRATIONS ABOUT SHAILENE WOODLEY’S MJ SCENES BEING CUT.

Let me tell you something: I would defend Mary Jane Watson with all of my heart. And it’s hard being an MJ fan since she garnered a lot of haters from Gwen Stacy/GwenxPeter/Stonefield fans (who haven’t even read the comics and do not know MJ as a character besides from her film interpretations, yet some insist to know more, but they really just want to watch stonefield. no pls.)

Mary Jane comes from an abusive and broken home. Her mother died, and her father always came home drunk. Her sister married and got pregnant early. And let me tell you: she all hid those pain, In a way like Peter Parker, she was wearing the “party girl/airhead” mask to hide the pain harbored from her family life. She basically created a mask of her being a party girl who only knows fun just to hide what she truly felt.

I’m really ticked off when people make Gwen and MJ rivals. Fun fact: they were best friends. And no, MJ didn’t “steal” Peter. After Gwen died, MJ and Peter turned each other for comfort because of everything they lost. And they fell in love.

MJ will never be interested in science like Gwen, and it’s really infuriating when people use this as an excuse on why she is not “compatible” with Peter, because apparently "gwen and peter both like science they’re perf!!!"

and I hereby debunk that stupid quote “Gwen fell in love with Peter and MJ fell in love with Spider-Man.” You guys, it’s NOT true. Trust me.

In a way, Peter/MJ are THE otp for me because they contrast each other. She’s the extrovert, party loving, popular, confident girl whilst Peter is the opposite. They absolutely have nothing in similar together, but after the tragedy of Gwen’s death, these two both suffered together and became best friends and turned each other for comfort and the rest is history.

And yes, I do agree with the Gwen/MJ the same as Jane/Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice. Jane/Gwen is the nicer and easily-likable one, but we still root for Elizabeth, the same way I root for MJ Watson.

I never ever thought that MJ will actually appear in the TASM franchise, so imagine my surprise when they announced that she's gonna be in TASM2. With Shailene Woodley playing as her.

OH MAN JUST LOOK AT THOSE PHOTOS I WAS REALLY EXCITED FOR THEIR FRIENDSHIP OK

and I love how the contrast is so evident. Gwen with her sophisticated clothes and MJ and her denim vests and jeans.

MJ and her motorcycle is so rad, man. And i'm really sad we won't get to see this little scene between Peter/MJ because now that they cut MJ's scenes, Shailene would also probably replaced by another actress due to her Divergent commitments.

This is why I'm pissed off. I won't even see Gwen-MJ-Harry-Peter friendship anymore.

AAAAAAND I noticed that I completely noticed that this post turned so long. I'm sorry. I got swept away by my intense emotions.

And I will end this post with one of my favorite Peter/MJ panels of all time;

I do hope I at least enlightened some of you. Ciao!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Let it be known that I am a huge Spider-Man fan and that he is my favorite superhero from Marvel. I've continuously followed the comics for years, so when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiered yesterday in our country, i was ecstatic.

So let me get up to the point; I've had a lot of problems with the TASM franchise. From the portrayal of Gwen to Aunt May, if you knew my fandom twitter, i've complained about this for 2 years. The first Spidey franchise with Tobey Maguire still holds my heart, and whilst it also had its faults, it still remains iconic and entertaining up to this day.

I liked TASM2.  Kind of. It had its tedious moments, (and some of the dialogue are really horrible I was embarrassed.) I liked it, but it definitely hasn't beaten Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is still probably the best Marvel movie today.

Under a cut for the pictures and some spoilers.

Mahirap po ba ang USTET? Incoming fourth year. And I really wanna spend my college life in UST. Any tips? :)

It’s hard if you didn’t study at all. But it’s still bearable if you had good grades for those 3 years of high school and if you can get by with general knowledge, math, science, and english. But if you’re really struggling with one or two subjects, i suggest that you should refresh your mind a bit and study formulas, widen your vocabulary, general knowledge and more. (I struggled with Geometry, since it’s my lowest point in math and USTET has A LOT of Geometry questions.)

  • You could enroll in a review center. It’s VERY helpful! (I enrolled in Brain Train and it’s really great.) Or you could buy those college entrance exams reviewer as an alternative.
  • Do not, for everloving god, study the night/day before the actual exam. (This was my problem during the USTET, I studied so hard days before the test and my head pounded, I got sick DURING the test. Heh.) It could also cause the dreaded mindblock!
  • Make sure you had good grades from 1st-3rd year. Those will be counted alongside with your USTET results.
  • Take online tests! I did those, and it’s very convenient. You can search for General Knowledge quizzes, Science quizzes, etc etc.
  • Have a good breakfast at the day of the exam. It’ll refresh your brain!
  • Practice your speed in answering. Do not focus in one question that you really are struggling to answer. It’ll be a waste of time and USTET is a TIME PRESSURE.

I guess that’s it? If you worked hard and really aimed for it, then there shouldn’t be a reason for you not to pass. I didn’t even finish the whole exam. I left like, HALF of the math questions unanswered because of the lack of time. Still, i passed. Good luck! :)

I'm officially a Thomasian.

Those 4 years of high school are all but gone, but yet I have to move on. It's time to start the new chapter of my life's book.

I enrolled today! It was kind of a breeze actually. I thought it would be very hectic and prissy but the enrollment there is well-managed. I was done in an hour. I talked to some and attempted to build friendships with people I know I will see around the hallways of my dear university. New faces may be scary, but if you insist on staying in the same fiddle without moving on, then you're really not living life, are you?

I think I'm contented with my schedule. The P.E chosen for me is intimidating but I haven't tried it yet so who knows.

My block is 1CA4! Any blockmates there? ;)

I think we spend too much time wondering why we’re not good enough. We spend too much time overanalyzing, overthinking, and overreacting. We waste too much time putting ourselves down, so much that we don’t ever stop to see that well, we are good enough. You are good enough. We spend too much time with our heads down and hearts closed, and never get a chance to look up from the ground and see that the sun is shining and tomorrow is another day.

Little Steps of Moving Forward: Graduation

'Twas our graduation last week. My first week of being used to the feeling that I will be an incoming college freshie. I've only spent 2 years with my classmates, and those two years had its moments to be treasured. Guaranteed that I may not spent my time with them enough, but that doesn't mean that I'll forget my memorable two years with them :)
