Can I just bring attention to this?

I have to admit that Anon’s accusations here outright appall me. To verbally attack the one who is generous enough to share and not take it out on those who accept his generosity is just heartbreaking to read. 

For those who don’t know, Sebaanacho has been part of the team which has brought us the Spanish and English translations of the Wakfu and Dofus comics. If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have been able to read any of it since Ankama or France 3 didn’t offer them in any other language than French. It was thanks to fan translations most of us got in touch with Wakfu OR Dofus, myself included. It gained international fans thanks to this kind of sharing and it is thanks to this that international fans wanted more. It gave Ankama the chance and also reason to broaden their horizons outside of France. (Netflix, anyone?)

Illegal downloads are never okay but don’t you dare attacking the one who actually paid money for it, has been giving time of his life to give something to fans without asking anything in return AND nudges people into the right direction for any psychical copies to buy. You better point at EVERYONE who has been downloading from him rather than try and kick him down because all Sebaa deserves is respect and gratefulness for what he has done for this community, along with his team no matter small.

It is a choice. Either you accept it or you don’t. At least most who do accept are willing to get the psychical copies (which in most cases don’t exist because most of the comics nor the series are not available in English… yet). I would love to get most of the comics, including any DVDs of the series but I am not going to pay for something which is only available in French. In the meantime…. I’ll enjoy what I can get my hands on until it becomes officially available.

and I think I have to step in and do a bit of devils advocate here.

yes he paid money, but he paid money to get those things. however he has no right to simply just put them out there for download. legally speaking that is still copyright infringement and theoretically Ankama can still sue him for violation of such.

Its honestly also kind of naive, probably unintentionally but still, to still hold to the phrase of “people will buy it when it becomes available.

Lets face facts first, its only the super fans that will but things like merch and so on after having watched the show. A lot of people only now coming into the show will likely only watch it on netflix and if they kind of liked it maybe track down these downloads.

However most will not go out of their way to buy anything. it might be a bit cruel to generalize like that but lets face it, its a fact. it will be a thing on their “I watched it and liked it list” but thats about it.

I think we have reached a point where “we only put it online until its available” isn’t a viable option anymore.

Specially in regards to those artbook. they have been available for purchase for a long time. Hell they are written in both English and French to begin with.

so what please is the excuse to put them online? can you please explain this to me?

Just putting up the store link along with your downloads doesn’t helps Ankama.

You know what Ankama helps? Cash. Giving them money will help them in trying to stay independent and make more of what we love. But giving out said product for free won’t help them.

And I know some will want to bust in with the excuse of “exposure”, but honestly. I think we are beyond the point where where that is still viable.

So please try to think a bit more of the bigger picture and that we need to support Ankama with money as well and not just with uploading their stuff on the net. its something that eventually can bite them in the ass when it comes to talk with bigger companies to make deals for future stuff and the other part not taking them serious cause they just let their stuff be pirated let, right and center.

You make many valid points and I also agree on many.

My main focus was on the sharing of things which aren’t available for those who do not speak French. There hasn’t been any other way of getting them other than wait for someone to buy them, scan them, translate them and then publicly share. Or in the case of the series before Netflix was arranged… wait for someone to rip the episodes, subtitle them and share. When there is no availability, I do support the people who do try to make it available. Most of the comics came out two years ago, almost three and we have yet to see any of them getting an official English release other than the Wakfu manga which has priority because of the animated series finally going international.

The artbooks I agree on. They were already officially translated, there was no need to share them though I still appreciate that someone did (in this case, Sebaa. It could have been some 4chan anon). It was wrong but appreciated. I myself got a glimpse of what the artbooks are truly about and I am very willing to get my hands on the other volumes by buying them, but that is me and I know not many share that point of view. With the artbooks being made available as digital rewards it is to be expected they are more easily shared, even if it were among circles of friends. You can more easily make a copy of a pdf. file than of a psychical version. This is something nobody can stop, not even Ankama… All one can do is be considerate and that really lays in the hands of the people who do click the download links.

I want Ankama to grow like most fans do, but until they produce that which I can read/watch without a translator I won’t be able to give them any financial support (other than pay for Netflix and finally get those artbooks becuz they be guud). It is give or take when it comes to that.
