I wanna ride on a train that has like those rooms you stay and sleep in and just ride in it for a week like not even to visit a place make a train just go around so I can spend a week in a train I don’t know why that just would be dope

the only reason i'm on my sudoku grind at 2:20am is because i have wants and desires that are driving me insane. to be honest

Why? I’m from Australia so I don’t know anything about this stuff

Because there should be public transit and trains. It is a ridiculously short flight that is just polluting the world unnecessarily but a lot of people don’t have a better option. There’s so many major cities in that small area that they should have train lines between them all

okay so like, I live in Baltimore. Boston is 8 hours by car away. But! There’s a direct train that goes there so I should take it and-

the train is 8 hours. Okay no big deal at least I’m not driving I can relax and-

the train ticket will run me one way between 100-300 dollars depending on when I buy it from Amtrak.

However, I can get an 80 dollar plane ticket one way on southwest, so I do that instead.

anyway it is beyond frustrating to be in the most used part of the amtrak system and still have train tickets be so goddamn cost prohibitive.

thats not a policy failure, its seven policy failures duct taped together

There’s a lot going on in that little critter’s head right now.

1. Power move.

2. Why do people whisked away to magical worlds just automatically believe the first creature that tells them what side the person needs to help? Where’s my isekai where the MC slowly finds out they got in with like the deranged zealots and are part of the evil faction, and not the plucky rebels?

I think about this comic once per week. It’s funnier then anything I can conceive of. Mastery.

I keep referencing this comic to my mythology clients in the back office and it is directly leading to multiple projects.

This comic is amazing.

The AI tech bubble finally bursting is going to be both catastrophic and very funny.

Like it’s going to be wild, it’s already starting to hit NVIDIA stock. The chain reaction will hit tech giants and everyone depending on them.

Line goes down.

It really is the perfect example of a bubble.

  1. Budding new technology shows the potential for promising new applications.
  2. Under late-capitalism, short-term profit always takes precedence over long-term gains because the assumption is that you can take the cash upfront and choose to A.) reinvest it into the original idea to make it a more viable investment, both by funding R&D and pulling more investors B.) run.
  3. Technology gets advertised, bought, and sold before any reliably useful applications can actually be developed. Pushing money into an unfinished technology does not mean it gets developed before investors want their return.
  4. Consumers and investors realize that without any viable applications, it’s a scam and they fell hard for it. The bubble deflates as investors try to minimize their losses. Those who took the money and ran reap massive profits from the misfortune they pushed on everyone else.

The nature of ai was ESPECIALLY seductive to investors because it promised to be the capitalist holy grail:

  • Just like crypto, it’s too new to have any sort of government oversight. Right-wing clowns are still convinced this is a good thing (“Why won’t the police help me retrieve my stolen jpeg?”).
  • Your “labor” would follow orders to the letter. You, wise, exalted executive, would never have your untrained artistic talent or unsolicited advice questioned again.
  • Most importantly, you could have employees you don’t have to pay. Paint the backdrop for a cinematic masterpiece with only a prompt! Use ai to ghostwrite a new romance novel seven days a week! Lay off your entire customer service department! The possibilities are endless!

The ai bubble wasn’t just a representation of its own overpromised potential, it also inflated every major tech corporation as they all expectantly awaited their first financial quarter with a 95% reduction in labor costs. Some of them prepared to lay off significant chunks of their workforce, expecting a fully automated replacement any day. But customer service chatbots are giving away free flights, some lethally unreliable books on mushroom foraging got published on amazon, and the wonka spectacular guy practically got a public stoning. It’s apparent (and more so every day) that the ai hatchling was pushed out of the nest without any feathers.

Here's the full, updated list from the FDA. It's currently (well, as of March 14 '24) 67 pages.

Also be aware that a LOT of companies substitute cheaper ingredients in their food products. Which is obnoxious but fine, unless you're allergic to the substitute ingredients.

Olive oil, tea, honey, cinnamon (not that lead is exactly "safe" to eat), vanilla, coffee, fish, blah blah blah. The list goes on. Any corners a company can cut to save .001%, they will. Usually the substitutes are mostly harmless, but it isn't as if companies care about consumer safety when there's profit to be made.

To clarify, the list linked is ALL hand sanitizer products officially recalled (and may have ongoing additions). It is NOT just the Aruba Aloe brand; there are many brands by various manufacturers on the list. So please check to see if you own anything on that list.

U.S. conservatives always talk about creating jobs but get SO MAD whenever anyone mentions banning prison labor like imagine the insane ammout of jobs that would be created literally overnight if companies in your country had to actually employ people instead of using slave labor from people that got caught with weed 10 years ago.

Daily reminder that the US, who love to scaremonger about "communist labour camps," have legal slave labour if you're in prison

This is horrible and reminds us once again that there is no legislation for how truthful a documentary has to be. Other jobs like journalists have colleges where you have to face consequences if you lie or manipulate information, but documentaries don't. That's how we get fake documents being used like this AI-generated images of a real person, and also all the liars on Discovery Max and the History channel spewing anti-science stupidity and pretending like it has any basis.
