Hello its been a while but are the zero faceplates still availqble?

Might have a few left! You’ll have to wait until November’s open order though, unless you want a default or sleeping Marion, because I have a couple of those in my personal collection.

I know it's a bit of an older post but I was googling stuff and came across your blog, and I was wondering... Do you remember what color Bunny Nine body you got, that you used for a quick Unoa Chibi hybrid? I assume it is NS but it seems from what I can tell that Bunny Nine's NS and WS are fairly similiar so I thought I'd ask for clarification, if possible

It was a normal skin, and the faceplate was old normal skin (not made by Alchemic Labo anymore). A fresh skin plate should work fine though, unless they’ve really changed their resin. I just remember bunny nine normal skin being quite yellow, so it worked much better with old normal skin.

I may have some old normal skin chibi faces in my unoalchemy stock if you need one.

We can finally start to talk about the new unoa project 😎

We won’t post final photos of them quite yet, but fully customized models should be ready by the Meihinichi doll event held in Osaka mid-Saptember.

The tweet above says:

「Unoa Quluts new works ’M’ & ‘P’ measure at 57cm and have the same eye and wig size as the Unoa Zero (Unon). They will also be able to share faces/body parts and the shoe parts. Please wait a little longer for full body pictures!」

Moving soon. Gotta narrow the collection down to pure essentials. Can’t do layaways, but will consider trades for: dollbakery or oscardoll eyes, very high quality slim mini clothing, or mature tiny dolls (under 30cm).

Doll chateau K-01 - SOLD.

Souldoll souloid 45cm girl body. - $290 plus shipping. She was Ier, but I swapped her for a normal skin top half. Comes with her Coa and extra bust. I have her box but it’s huge, so I’ll only send it on request.

Dear Unoa Freaks,

We’re finally back from hiatus and ready!

This month, we have a very special announcement. Araki-Sensei has been sculpting Unoa again! For this year’s Halloween even we are proud to announce a brand new face and hands created for the Elder Sisters, and a special Halloween edition of the Elder Brothers!

UnoAlchemy Halloween Special Items: Fury Belia Elder Sister – The full doll is 50,000 JPY, and includes the new special heat-moldable hands! Fury Belia Faceplate and Hand Set – A set of the newly sculpted Fury Belia faceplate, and the new long-fingernail heat-moldable hands

Vampire/Ghost Fairy Elder Brothers – The Special Edition Halloween fairy Elder Brother boys are 54,000 JPY come with a special set of vampire teeth for Zest! Mr. Araki has made them especially for this event.

At the moment, we’re looking for interest to decide whether we should do this on a lottery basis, or first come, first served. There are 10 special edition elder brothers, and 13 sets of the new Fury face and hands. What do you think? Lottery, or open purchases? Please reblog this post with your answer ❤️

I’m back from America and still digesting both the food and the experience!!

I got to witness a historical moment for @mindaroth as she pretty much completed her unoa series. Her teeny tiny Unoa Light girl got along well with Malina✨

I had a great time, both at and outside of BJDC. So many awesome people I finally got a chance to meet! I hope I’ll see you again soon ❤️

Dear Unoa Alchemy. I have loved Unoa for decades but never owned one because of the second hand price. I want to thank you for existing. I hope your business is booming!

This means the world to the real, actual people working on this. I can't blame anyone who gave up on Unoas in the years when you just couldn't get them for anything like a reasonable price.

But I hope that now all those people who had a Unoa as their grail can finally dream of seeing it happen.

It did for me! I got my last Grail doll last week - a Unoa lite. I thought it would never ever happen, but the unoa community came through. I want everyone to feel this good. I want Alchemic Labo to be energized and excited about their dolls, and I want Araki-sensei to be filled with as much inspiration as his work gives me.

Both of us here have full time "day jobs" UnoAlchemy is a labor of love for us. So all we need to consider our work a success is for people to be happy and for Alchemic Labo to have the funds to go on making more dolls.

Austin BJD con/UnoAlchemy

Had a blast on the free day. I don’t think I’ll ever pay to come to all of it, but I had fun shopping. There were so many people and I got to see a smart doll in person! I wanted one until Saturday, they are light as a feather… But too big. Scary big.

Met the fantastic dynamic duo of UnoAlchemy, as well as the owner of AL (Tama-san was so sweet, I really wish I could have spoken to her in Japanese). I already knew Melinda and Dagbjört was awesome, this just cemented it. Of all the people I’ve met in this hobby, these 2 lovely ladies have been the most humble, helpful, down right nice people I’ve met. They love unoas and just love helping people discover them. So if customer service is important to you and you are interested in unoa, shoot them an email and let them help you. You won’t be disappointed. If for some crazy reason you don’t want to email them (why I don’t know, they are so sweet), feel free to message me here or on FB…

I did hear some people in the crowd around the UA table comment about how unoas are still expensive. This is *kinda* true, but not really when you break everything down.

A unoa 1.5 or chibi is $430 shipped world wide, so the doll is about $400ish before shipping. Alchemic Labo owners are super generous with what they give for free. Typically they give shoes, feet, busts, faces, fantasy parts, and hands; some combo of those are typically given. It’s not guaranteed, but I’ve ordered 4 dolls from UA and received at least $100+ worth of merchandise included with the 1.5s (there are less optional parts for elder sister and brother, but you’ll likely get the faces and maybe shoes for the girls).

So that pushes the 1.5/chibi dolls down to about $300, at least in my mind. So yeah you can’t refuse the free stuff and get a doll for $300, but when you add in the free stuff, you are getting a lot of stuff for $430. You could easily sell the free stuff on doa and recoup a nice chunk of change if needed, but I would never do that. I’m a hoarder and want all the unoa parts. All of it :v

Anyways, I’m done with my tangent.

The unoa meet was fantastic. I met a lot of good people, very creative people. You all need to share more photos in the unoa freaks group! I expect more photos from the fantastic Kayla (loved seeing you in person as well

I’ve got some plans made now because of the people I’ve met. Some flower crowns, wigs, and perhaps a doctor who suit. Wish I could have spent more time with everyone … But due to construction, a 6 hour drive turns into 8.5 hours, so we had to leave super early today (Sunday) ☹️

It was absolutely amazing to meet everyone, but especially @catfishy2u. After so long of talking almost every day about random doll plans and just life in general it felt like meeting an old friend rather than seeing someone for the first time. I have made the best friends through a love of unoas. I feel like unoa freaks are just in general awesome people.

Happy!

So I traded my unoa lite for an elder sister belia. I just wasn’t bonding with the lite at all. It was not fun for me to take photos, paint, or dress.

So now I know… YOSD and MSD only, with chibi (35cm) being the sweet spot!

So I traded my elder sister Belia for my very last Grail doll and I think I may have (figuratively) died.

Like, this fulfills a dream I've had since aboooout 2003 (have every Araki girl). My house is practically gonna be an Araki museum and I am SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT!

August is almost here, and a new interview is up! This time, welcome Melinda (aka as @mil-mascaras) and Maria (aka @berrysdoll) from Uno Alchemy (on Tumblr: @unoalchemy)! They are a legit BJD store that works with AlchemicLabo to bring B-Grade Unoas to the international market.

As always, the interview is both in English and Spanish, and all the images are used with permission. You can read it here: http://bit.ly/InterviewUnoAlchemy

Feel free to share the link, but do not repost the interview. If you want to translate it to yet another language, contact me first.

Do you know how many dolls will be available for purchase from UnoAlchemy/alchemylabo at the Austin Bjd convention this year? I really hope to buy one but I can only come Saturday

Over 10! We have all the doll lines represented (except for the 2.0). We even have a tan Lusis!

Hi there I was wondering since u work with Unoalchemy are tan skin unoa's available for purchase yet? I went to the site and could only find listings for fairy-skin and fresh skin :(

Hi Anon!

The tan skin dolls are produced in very small batches, like all Unoas, so they are only available for a short time before they sell out. The tan girls were released this spring, and sold on a lottery (we only had 10 of them). International buyers actually got more available tan dolls than Japan did! Tan elder boys will be released a bit later this year. They’ve been cast and we’re working on getting them ready. The tan is a standard color, but it just takes a very long time to make and prepare them, and they sell out fast because they’re new and scarce right now. The best way to get a tan Unoa is to follow the Unoa Freaks facebook group or the UnoAlchemy tumblr to know when a lottery or sale is coming up. Next after the elder boys will probably be tan chibis, but I can’t be certain since even Alchemic Labo doesn’t know yet.

Why do some (mostly Japanese) companies do so many lotteries instead of just taking pre-sales?

(The following includes input from a friend who works for a Japanese doll company)

There are several factors that can make a lottery sale a big improvement over presales for many doll companies.

Sometimes the staff can only do so much - So say a company is about to release a doll that they know will have massive demand (for example, Rin and Len from Volks). They know they will have to produce a lot of dolls, but their amount of staff does not change. That means that it would take forever to finish all the dolls if anyone who wanted one was allowed to preorder. Now, they could hire extra help (people who don’t know about the dolls and may not care about quality control), or they can limit the release to just what they’re capable of handling. If they follow with re-releases, everyone gets the doll in stages. It’s not perfect, but at least the release isn’t delayed for a year +.

They need to produce the doll in advance - Sometimes you need to produce a run of a certain doll in advance in order to have outfits made, get makeup done, take promotional photos, etc. While you are doing this, there’s no way to predict how many you will need, and it’s a doll company’s worst nightmare to overproduce, because then you’re stuck with inventory of something for a long time (which makes the doll look less desirable, which makes less people buy it, which is a nasty cycle). So often companies will produce less dolls than they know will sell, just to be safe. Once they’ve done this, they can decide to sell on a lottery or first come, first served basis. The lottery often ends up being more democratic, because dolls can be sold to people in many time zones, and with many different schedules. It’s basically a fairer way of giving everyone a chance. Some people are going to miss out, but at least they missed out due to total chance, rather than because they couldn’t get to a computer fast enough or the servers crashed.

The  market sometimes enjoys limited items - Some dolls are simply sold in limited releases because some fans of dolls and collectibles enjoy collecting that way. Not every limited doll is limited just to please that market, but if you have promised exclusivity, it’s not a good idea to turn them off by reselling the exact same edition of a doll they worked very hard to secure. That’s why often a doll will be sold in one skin tone or with one fullset and released later in a different color or with different makeup or items.

Lotteries can be easier to handle than ecommerce platforms- Frankly, the programming side of any website can be a bit tricky to maintain. High volumes of people rushing a website at once can cause it to crash, and can cause logic problems when multiple people try to buy the same item as inventory is changing. It can create embarrassing headaches. To avoid this, some companies with websites may opt for a lottery that allows them to manually control the inventory of a popular release so that no one is accidentally left out or gets their hopes up over a doll that isn’t available anymore.

Lotteries are not:

  • Something meant to exclude people
  • A way for companies to screw over their fans
  • A way to cherry-pick who gets to own what dolls
