Is there an age limit on your team or can anyone try?

Hi anon!

We judge applications on multiple merits. One of those merits is maturity, which tends to correspond positively with age, but it doesn’t always. Please do apply - we’d love to hear about you! :)

When will you choose the last member? :)

Hi anon!

We’re looking at applications on a rolling basis, so we are definitely working on them! If you haven't heard from us, it's not necessarily a no and on the flipside it’s not a yes. We'll stop looking when we find the right person that fits with our team dynamic, and when we do, we will post publicly or close the app so that there’s no confusion.

In the meantime, we encourage everyone to keep applying to all the teams they’re interested in and convincing their friends/neighbors/siblings/pets to participate in gishwhes this year! Happy gishing! :)

Just wondering, what's the meaning behind your team name?

The team name dates back to October of 1998, when Team Founder Ambinder Fallows woke up from a frenzied dream.  He had dreamed that one day he would visit Costa Rica.  But in the dream, he hadn’t simply bought a plane ticket to Costa Rica.  No!  He had humiliated himself in front of the world for the honor of being flown to Costa Rica!  And he had loved it!  Sadly, Ambinder was killed six months later, when he was run over by a team of Competitive Bicycle Tourers, and his legacy, his dream, fell to the wayside of history.

Until fifteen years later, when early Team Bicycle Touring members stumbled across his old, abandoned Tripod webpage, and were inspired by his story. Taking on his mantle, and his mission, Team Bicycle Touring chose to honor his death in our name, taunting, mocking, and ultimately taking the horrible sting away from such a traumatic event.

We pedal forward for Ambinder.  We pedal forward for Costa Rica.  We pedal forward because we must.  And, ultimately, we all pedal forward together.

(But actually, our name comes from one of Misha’s old acting resumes, where he lists “bicycle touring” as one of his special skills. A fan brought his resume to a convention, and he & Jensen went through it (hilariously). You can watch a video of it here, mentioned at 3:17!)

when will you guys be getting back to people on their applications?

Hello there!

Our team hasn’t worked out the schedule yet, so we can’t completely say for sure. Although registration probably won’t start until July, we did want to make an application available for anyone who was interested right now.

Thanks for asking!

You guys are one of my favorite teams! Becase you have such lovely quality photos. Just wondering, how many items did you guys complete?

Thanks so much, anon! We actually decided as a team not to post the exact number of items we completed, since there’s so much that goes into our efforts (and into judging) besides just that number. But we appreciate your curiosity!

just wanted to say that I loved your photo items. they looked so pretty! do you all have fancy cameras?

Aww thank you so much! :)

A few of our members do, but some just use their phones (iphones and other models). We all try to take pictures during the day though; natural lighting helps a lot.

Sorry you guys didn't win (you were my pick), but congrats on runner up! Are you gishing next year?

Thanks, anon! We are so pleased to be back in the esteemed company of our fellow re-runnerers-ups and to have some fresh blood in here!

We will absolutely be in the hunt for 2015 (and every year until Rosie pries my cold, dead fingers away from the keyboard at registration). We’ve been excited since August 10th :)

Congratulations!

Well we’d planned to wait to post until the runners-up were announced, but we’re too impatient and confused by the concept of sub-categories! So…

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE GISHWHES TEAMS!

Congratulations on the kind and beautiful and wonderful things you all did and made. Congratulations to the winner and future runners-up! Congratulations to everyone who has already decided that GISHWHES 2015 will be their year!

And remember, kindness isn’t just for one week a year <3

If you ever wondered why I GISH, it’s because GISHWHES is about kindness and love as much as it is about randomness and insanity. It’s because GISHWHES is about putting a bright spot in the lives of people who may be in very dark times. It’s because they practice what they preach, and you should, too.

It’s because I found a group of people who love and support each other from around the world, despite the fact that there’s a very good chance we will never see each other in person.

So thank you GISHWHES, for being there for me and for the people I love. I know you hear all the time about the lives you’ve changed, but mine is one of them, and I’m so grateful.

So did you just choose the best of the best of your items and there's a lot more that you completed or

Hey, anon! As a team, we chose the items that were our favorites for a bunch of different reasons - because we were particularly proud of the product, because we were really excited we managed to get it done, because it had special/funny memories for us as a team, etc. The posts are just sort of a memorial of the things that give us the warmest fuzzies. So they're not necessarily the "best" things we did, but rather the things that meant the most to us. We didn't feel it was necessary to post every item that we did for a whole list of reasons that were true for us last year and remained true this year. So yes, there are more items that we completed and did not post.

That's All Misha Wrote

Today's posts mark the end of our GISHWHES 2014 queue. Thanks for sticking with us as we shared some of our team's favorite submissions (it was hard to whittle down the list, so we hope you've enjoyed what we selected!). We've now updated our members page so you can get an idea of who made what; take a look and tell them how smart and pretty and wonderful you think they are (I think they're tired of hearing it from me). The team will now go back to floating around the interwebs, but we will still be checking Tumblr regularly if anyone has questions/comments/concerns/elopuses for us.

Be on the lookout for a blooper reel coming in the next few weeks.

Thank you to everyone who has pedaled along with us, to everyone who helped us during and after the hunt, for all the support you've given while we posted, and to all the teams who have been posting the astounding things they produced this year! It’s been an amazing journey, and we can't wait for GISHWHES 2015!
