The Alabaster Jar

@solafideetgratia-blog / solafideetgratia-blog.tumblr.com

I'm Molly. I'm a nobody trying to tell everybody about the most important Somebody. I'm living to know Him, and dying to make Him known. I will probably offend you at some point. Consider this your formal warning. I pray my blog does not tickle your ears or your hearts. [John 3:30] Why 'The Alabaster Jar'? Jesus has been teaching me, through the Good Book, a lot about surrender - specifically in Luke 7, in there is this beautiful picture of reckless abandonment to Jesus Christ. In Jesus' time, when a woman reached the age to be able to get married, her family would buy an alabaster jar for her and fill it with precious perfume. The size and value of the perfume depended on the family's wealth. And when women got asked to marry someone, she would respond by taking the jar and breaking it at his feet, then proceeding to anoint them with the perfume as a sign of honoring him. In Luke 7, the woman breaks her jar at Jesus' feet to show her reckless abandonment to Him. Is there evidence of this in your daily life?

My sweet grandpa peacefully went to be with the Lord today, seconds after the Packer game, probably exactly how he would want it. I will forever be a Packer fan in his honor. Cannot wait to see you again, enjoy the hammocks in Heaven - I can't wait to join you, sitting on your lap, in our Packer pjs. I love you. Go Pack Go! Go Gramps Go!

'Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"' •Matthew 14:29-30• I'm so glad Jesus chose Peter to be one of His disciples, because he's like most of us - curious, impetuous, and sometimes weak. Matthew 14 tells us the story of one of the best-known events in Peter's life. The disciples were in a boat, and Jesus came to them walking on the water. They thought he was a ghost, but Jesus immediately said, "Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid." "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." Jesus said, "Come," so Peter audaciously got out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. When he saw the storm, however, he began to sink. Immediately Jesus reached out and caught him. As long as Peter's eyes were on Jesus, he walked on water. But when he looked at the circumstances around him, he began to sink. When you focus your attention on how many bills you have to pay, or a doctors diagnosis, or the fact that you have been let go of your job - like Peter, you'll begin to sink. Where you focus your attention makes all the difference. If you look in your own heart, you'll become depressed. If you look back to your past, you'll feel defeated by the memory of failures. If you look to others, you may be disappointed. But if you look to Christ, you will never be depressed or defeated or disappointed. Let us fix "our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith," says Hebrews 12:2. When you're overwhelmed by the storm, look to Jesus. He is there. Reach for His hand.

2 years ago today, Justin asked me to be his girlfriend. 1 year ago today, he asked me to marry him. Throwback to our first picture together. It is crazy how fast time has flown by, and how much has happened since this day.
