“I never never told him, I never told anyone”. In this moment, Damon opens himself to Elena, for the first time to anyone, about his deepest wound : his past as an Augustine vampire. I choose this moment because it finally shows us the reason that made him turn his humanity off and it also shows us that he protected his baby brother from a guilt that he didn’t want to put on his shoulders, because it was the past and he thought it didnt matter anymore… but it did matter and it changed his whole life.

Do you see the way he’s so concerned about her? How protective he is of her. The way he just wants to calm her down. How he gently caresses her skin. Giving her the go-ahead to open up to him which she takes. She tells him what’s wrong and you can instantly see the walls that come up. How he tries to conceal the insecurity and jealousy that is threatening its way forward, but he quickly puts that aside to hear about her worries.

damon s5 appreciation week | day 2: best boyfriend!damon moment

I just really loved this moment, because for three episodes Damon was worried about protecting Katherine from Silas (“Silas wants her real bad, and if Silas wants her, I want her more”) - but now that Elena’s putting herself in danger, he’s willing to let go of Katherine and risk her being used by Silas for whatever evil plan he has to screw up the rest of them, because the last thing he wants is to lose Elena. And he can’t help kissing her one last time just in case anything bad happens.
