Week 5: Back to Panem

Most impactful death.

A lot of people could fit into this category. Rue, Snow, the girl by the fire….each one’s life created an impact in these books.

Personally, I have to go with Finnick. As a character he had sacrificed so much of his life.. A Victor at 14, a slave to the Capitol, hiding himself behind a persona to protect those around him, including his love Annie.

He supported Katniss and also became a trusted ally and friend. He also was willing to support the Rebellion any way he could.

His life and dedication for Annie is also beautiful and poignant. In many ways, we see their relationship mirrored with Katniss’s and Peeta’s. We also get to see Katniss’s heart when she reflects on their love.

Finnick’s death is also one of the most heart-wrenching. It’s abrupt. It’s confusing and it hurts. It’s definitely a reread moment.

finnick odair, who took care of an old woman in the arena, who learned how to take care of his mentally ill wife and taught peeta how to calm down using what he learned, who put himself in charge of helping peeta, who was used by the capitol for his body and refused to ever be a pawn again, who was nothing like anyone assumed, was a better character than anyone deserved tbh
