When you start making + receiving money, use it to get your health in line!
I am dead serious about this, I see far too many women who are obsessed with buying the latest Chanel purse or those cute Hermés Oran sandals when they should be using their money to improve their health. Luxury goods don't matter if you can't enjoy them and what's the point of neglecting your health for material items? It makes no sense, you need to be healthy and you need to put your money where it matters the most. So invest in yourself and make all of the necessary appointments you need to have so that you're able to consider yourself healthy.
What you should immediately do with your first sudden influx of currency is make a dental appointment to have your teeth professionally cleaned, have your x-rays done, have a consultation for Invisalign if you feel you need it, and have your teeth gently whitened. I promise you, it's not worth putting off a dental appointment in order to buy fancy things, you don't want to be put in a position where you'll have to be buying fancy dentures in a few years. If you do already have dentures, veneers, or dental implants, level them up! Spend your money on newer and more expensive products that will increase your comfort and improve your quality of life! Having dental discomfort is an unnecessary evil!
You should also make an eye appointment, you need to visit an eye doctor at least once yearly and you can take the opportunity to get a cute new pair of glasses with frames you actually like or those hydrating contact lenses that are considered to be luxurious so your insurance refuses to cover them. Life is so much better when you can wake up in the morning, put on your glasses, and enjoy crystal clear vision. There's nothing like being able to live and enjoy your life and investing in yourself is the smartest decision you can make, I promise that luxury items can't even begin to compare to a healthy, whole, and healed body. It just doesn't make sense to buy luxury goods when you are a luxury good, you need to care for yourself well.
Take yourself to a podiatrist, you're too young to have that knee pain and custom made shoe inserts could legitimately improve your life. I thought it was all very silly but I recently got a pair of the custom made inserts and tennis shoes that my cousin uses and I can actually walk with ease now. I don't have the weird pain that comes from always wearing heels and I can finally put my feet flat on the ground instead of always walking on the tips of my toes. Go to a chiropractor as well, having my hips aligned helped make my life so much nicer, for the first time in modern history, I can walk and enjoy walking instead of hobbling around because my bones have a horrid ache. Chiropractors and Podiatrists are key!
I would also make an appointment with a hearing doctor, hearing loss can happen early and you can even be born with mild hearing loss so why not take the time to have your ears checked and see if you need hearing aids? You can buy the fancy invisible kind that just go inside of your ear and disappear but they'll make your hearing impeccable and you'll be able to have clear conversations and watch movies without subtitles and just generally have a nicer life. No one needs to know, you don't need to get the big clunky ones that are offered with public health insurance or the slightly less clunky ones offered with private health insurance, you can get the nice hidden streamlined ones and go about your day to day business with the added benefit of hearing. There's nothing like enjoying yourself and going out without the fear of being unable to hear important things.
Have your blood drawn and have your labs run, get the full panel drawn up and look at your levels. Blood tests can reveal so many things and really give you clues as to where you should improve your health. A lot of the tests aren't covered by insurance and have to be asked for and, as soon as you have the opportunity, you need to ask to have those tests run. Have an allergy test, there's probably a reason as to why you feel shitty after you eat certain foods, not every allergic reaction comes with anaphylactic shock, some allergic reactions just give you a headache, make your heart race, hurt your stomach, and make you feel horrid for days. There's a clear reason as to why you don't always feel the best but cost is a huge barrier in medicine. The second you have the opportunity, take it in hand immediately.
I have a friend who has scoliosis but also sugars and one of the first things she did was save up so that she could spend $15,000 on the luxury version of the back brace she has to wear to sleep and a new mattress and bed frame to support her back and she started to feel whole again. She didn't have to deal with debilitating back pain due to having to skimp and save when it came to her medical aids, she could do fun things like sports without having to sit on the sidelines, and her life really took a turn for the better because she was able to finally have the things that she needed without thinking of the cost of them.
All of my cousins sugar and marry well, I don't have a single one who hasn't, the first thing they always tell me to do is invest in their bodies. Will an Hermés Birkin increase in value if you hold onto it and keep it in good shape? Yes, but what's the point of having a purse when you're living in pain to the point where enjoying life is a laughable concept and your teeth are damaged and feel like they're about to fall out? There will always be time to buy things, we live in a capitalist society that pushes purchases like there's no tomorrow, you don't have unlimited time to enjoy your body though. If you get yourself into peak physical health while you're young and take care of yourself, you're setting yourself up for easier days later on and you're also improving your life in the moment. You can't tell me that health isn't a precious commodity, everyone wants to be healthy and health is considered to be a true luxury in most of the world.
Lots of Love,
Linsi.
