Hello, while traveling the Iceland i stumbled upon the stave: Veiðistafur. I would like to know more about it. As i understand it's a symbol that is meant for fisherman's good luck. What does it look like, as there are a few of them around the web. What is it made of and what do the parts represent? Best regads, Jure. My e-mail: jure.gombac@gmail

There are many Veiðistafir. It's easier if you write to me. Contact me via my webpage.

I am wondering if I need to be careful about anything specific when considering getting a Að unni (never ending story - tortured heart) tattoo or a Vatnahlífir (long story - drowned once)) as far as location and/or whether it is just a bad idea in general. Thanks!

Sounds like a good idea.

Can you explain to me the runes used to create the bind rune to promote love from woman to man?

I would use a stave rather than a bindrune.

Hi, you have this very beautifull version of the Þórshamar stafur in one of your Answers here. Would you tell me from which manuscript you have taken the picture? Thank you for your awesome work and your wonderful page!

Þórshamar appears in several manuscripts, each slightly different. I have taken each into consideration to create the best version.

Hi! First of all, very interesting Information! Do you have some deeper Information about the “Þórshamar” (Thor’s hammer) symbol? Since you seem to ne an expert, do you ever heard about the ulfshjartr symbol? This symbol can be found easily in the web such as pinterest, but I can't find any "bit more serious" source of Information. Would be glad if you can help me in this matter. Thanks in advance!

Wanted to ask what exact symbols mean, protection/luck against misfortune at both land and sea. I want to go into marine biology in the future and wanted to get a tattoo that symbolizes my protection at land and sea. Which symbols would do that for me exactly? Pictures or explanation would be awesome!

I would like to use a magical rune or bind rune to help me to succed as a profesional published author. I know that these are best making them up yourself and meditation into the symbol for manifestation. So, can I just make a random symbol totally out of my imagination or no?

You could, however, it would be better to be informed and knowledgeable in the subject. If you want to be "professional", het a "professional" to make it for you. The you can meditate over it as much as you like.

So Odin's illusionary rune should it be carved on wood? Drawn with your own blood? Or how to make this galdrastafir? /Lina

Many staves come with instructions on how they should be created. A fair few are on wood and several with blood from one source or another, usually one's own blood.

That said, we are in a modern age and in my opinion, should use common sense, modern solutions. Therefore, I put very little importance on the "magic recipes" given for Galdrastafir. In your case, as you appear to put a lot of weight to recipes, sure, prick your finger and colour the stave with some blood. Be sure to disinfect first!

Hi, so I found your blog through research because I wanted to tattoo my son’s name (Ivar) in Runes and I must say you helped me with it very well. But, I did have a question about the ‘r’ in the runes. As the small R is ᚱ – r and the capital r is ᛦ – R . Which one then would be the bets one to use? As both of them are R’s. Thank you!

Small "r".
