Welcome Despair
A thousand voices carried on the wind,
Swirling, seeping through the skin,
Behind the eyes, they burrow in,
And bed themselves to lie.
They scream to leave the senses hewn,
Howl their worst beneath the moon,
To weakness do their calls attune,
Mendacious speech do they deny.
When artificial clarity,
Walks hand in hand with apathy,
The scars they made remain indelibly,
Even whilst they sleep.
They’ve taken all they can from me,
But not enough to halt their greed,
So now they lie in wait to feed,
‘til their time arrives once more to speak.
The cycle, it can only end,
When this warm body turns cold in the pale night air,
Welcome Despair.
