i โค๏ธ ... (button sets, part 1) by Claire Thompson
stop naming your pets after anime characters i just had to ask this person "are killua's testicles enlarged?"
like 2 weeks ago i had to ask "is nami's liquid diarrhea getting better?"
i helped this guy schedule a neuter for his dog named luffy once and this man tells me with a straight face "thank you for all your help getting luffy neutered"
this comic is a metaphor but also real
โIf a society puts half its children into short skirts and warns them not to move in ways that reveal their panties, while putting the other half into jeans and overalls and encouraging them to climb trees, play ball, and participate in other vigorous outdoor games; if later, during adolescence, the children who have been wearing trousers are urged to โeat like growing boys,โ while the children in skirts are warned to watch their weight and not get fat; if the half in jeans runs around in sneakers or boots, while the half in skirts totters about on spike heels, then these two groups of people will be biologically as well as socially different. Their muscles will be different, as will their reflexes, posture, arms, legs and feet, hand-eye coordination, and so on. Similarly, people who spend eight hours a day in an office working at a typewriter or a visual display terminal will be biologically different from those who work on construction jobs. There is no way to sort the biological and social components that produce these differences. We cannot sort nature from nurture when we confront group differences in societies in which people from different races, classes, and sexes do not have equal access to resources and power, and therefore live in different environments. Sex-typed generalizations, such as that men are heavier, taller, or stronger than women, obscure the diversity among women and among men and the extensive overlaps between themโฆ Most women and men fall within the same range of heights, weights, and strengths, three variables that depend a great deal on how we have grown up and live. We all know that first-generation Americans, on average, are taller than their immigrant parents and that men who do physical labor, on average, are stronger than male college professors. But we forget to look for the obvious reasons for differences when confronted with assertions like โMen are stronger than women.โ We should be asking: โWhich men?โ and โWhat do they do?โ There may be biologically based average differences between women and men, but these are interwoven with a host of social differences from which we cannot disentangle them.โ

Yes.
Here, have a study (x) showing that mothers underestimate their daughterโs physical capacity from as young as 11 months old (though in reality itโs identical to that of their sonโs at the same age). And if you think that parents acting on those expectations wonโt alter their childrenโs development, then I have a sloped bridge to sell you.
Stop saying shit like "United States of Israel". The idea that Israel is controlling the US/western politics is ridiculous and actively harmful. The US is a fully autonomous player allying with & funding genocide for it's own benefit; Israel & its military power in the Middle East is a useful extension of US empire first and foremost.
This rhetoric that US politics have somehow been co-opted by a foreign government does not only obfuscate the US's actual positioning as the most dominant colonial power in the world that literally has free reign to do whatever it wants in global politics, but also veers into "jews secretly control everything" anti-semitic conspiracy. Fuck the state of Israel. But also, the US's involvement here is not some kind of corruption of the American system. It is exactly what America is and has always been, don't get it twisted.
Love being fun and silly with strangersโฆ Today at the farmers market the hummus guy saw my bag and was like โWeโre filling that up right??โ and I was like Twist my arm!! and we both hooted. Then at the end he was like โBy the way the baklava is only half sliced so make sure to slice before servingโฆ that is, if youโre going to share!!โ and I was like โOh I wouldnโt count on that!! ๐๐โ and we shared another hearty laugh. I love playing in this space with you
