As soon as his arms closed around her, Maeve felt the tension slowly draining from her, coaxed away by his warmth, which felt like that of a space heater on her fear-chilled skin. The harsh emotions of the day had worn away at her boundaries like wind and water against a stone, and she didn’t hesitate before burrowing her face into the space between his neck and shoulder.
“–Maeve?”
Shifting a little so that her mouth was clear, she murmured back, “Yeah, Spence?”
His head tucked so that his cheek could rest against her hair. Fingers rubbed her back and Spencer almost felt as if they’d known each other forever--- along with how comfortably he could hold her.
“That one time on the phone.. I love you--”
Voice soft and as if he knew it were way too late, his eyes avoided her own at first.
