Bittersweet: A BANGSWIFT ALBUM

This is a fan concept since I dearly and closely follow BTS and Taylor Swift. The original idea credit is to my twitter mutual Nadine (I cannot find her original post so I have linked her twitter account instead, I’m so sorry Nadine). 

I did album cover, tracklist and a list of sub-unit divided per track.

I named this fanart-ish album bittersweet because what I imagine is the collab album would have variants of emotions. Both, Taylor Swift and BTS are known to do that kind of style. One example would be BTS’ Love Yourself trilogy albums and Taylor Swift’s Lover express various sides of the term ‘Love’. 

MY THOUGHTS ON THE ALBUM TRACKLIST-WISE:

1. An interlude is an instrumental passage that comes between sections of lyrics in a song, like between a verse. An interlude can also come between choruses, and if we see from perspective of an album listing, interludes act as introduction for an album, which is why it’s also often labelled as ‘Intro’. It connects different parts of a song within the body of the album. Musicians and producers have played with interludes in many creative ways. One example I’d like to give is Eminem’s ‘Alfred – Interlude’ in his recent album ‘Music To Be Murdered By’. (He sampled dialogues that sound so so similar to one of my favorite filmmakers Alfred Hitchcock, I am nerding out). Eminem using Hitchcock’s voice in his interlude has a huge HUGE significance: Hitchcock is called ‘master of suspense’ and back in his days (1930-80s) he was the one who mastered screenplay related to murder, suspense, noir (stories revolving around tragedy and deception). Since, Eminem’s album itself is titled ‘Music To Be Murdered By’, this interlude signified album’s theme as a new age neo-noir category of music. (Cool right?)

So I couldn’t think of anyone else other than Namjoon and Taylor to do the interlude because Intro: Persona was the first track that really impressed me when I was sort of a local and was slowly discovering BTS music. That is not the only reason, but also when I found out how Intro: Skool Luv affair’s music was sampled in Intro: Persona, I thought that this approach was really creative. I expect the interlude to sound a lot like tracks from Mono, when Namjoon is doing a laid back slow rap and Taylor is doing chorus similar to New Romantics, or you could say, the track that would have the amalgamation of Mono & 1989 (masterpieces, I will cry if that happens). I think their style will be very compatible together. I expect the lyrics to talk about various emotions left by people all around the world + various age groups because it will introduce the album theme in my head better.

2. Two words: Rapper Taehyung. He wants it. I want it. You all want it. I imagine the song to have 134340 from Love Yourself: Tear vibe because ‘Rhythm & Beat’ is a full form of R&B (yep you know it now if you haven’t known). And I think 134340 itself sounds like if Lo-fi and r&b style had a love child (It sounds better in my head trust me). I love that track so much and Taehyung’s velvety, breathy voice especially when he’ll be rapping will sound so good. Rapline will pour magic to rest of the track because they’re are so SO good in all their tracks and none of them are repetitive like I noticed with a lot of Korean rappers, that goes without saying. No tea, just fact.

3. Tayjin *inserts heart eyes emoji*, ever since a bangswiftie made a mashup of Wildest Dreams and Epiphany, I have been dying to get a Tayjin sub-unit. Again, I want the track to have pure 1989 vibe, I want the music to transition and fade during the bridge where Taylor and Seokjin will go back to back with their vocals while only acoustic guitar plays in the background. That’s it, that’s the dream.

4. When I think of Home, I think about glitter and rose champagne in a house that has everything comfortable you can imagine. The song undoubtedly reminds me of why BTS perceive us as their home or to rephrase it better ‘comfort zone’. The song is also fun so I imagine the part 2 feat. Taylor to have the beats of Spine Breaker’s instrumentals - something similar, I hope you get the idea I have in my head. 

5. Taylor and Gguk’s high notes in a pre-chorus, hip and up-tempo beat is something I imagine for this track. Robert DeLong’s ‘Favorite Color Is Blue’ song has a mix of chill beats and some dubstep vocals in between verses and I think Taylor and Gguk will ABSOLUTELY kill that style.

6. We know that Taylor and Yoongi are legends when it comes to diss tracks. From This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things to I Forgot That You Existed, from Give It To Me to What Do You Think, both of them will end careers if they do a mean track together and honestly I’m waiting for the world to end when that happens. Produced by Min PD, both of them go back to back, and it couldn’t hurt if I imagine a bit of T-Swizzle in it too.

7. A sweet and melancholic song with hints of nostalgia is how I imagine a Jimin and Taylor track. I couldn’t imagine anyone but Jimin’s angelic voice for second part of This Love. Just like Mary’s Song, I imagine that the lyrics will have storytelling structure. To explain what I think how this track would sound like, I’d like to give an example of Tame Impala’s ‘Yes I’m Changing.’ 

8. Since Outro usually tells a conclusion for an album, I think Taehyung’s comforting voice will really compliment Taylor’s. I imagine lyrics to be hopeful and encouraging. Like a book with tragedy that eventually blooms into a happy ending. Winter Bear is my lullaby song, it really helps me sleep so I cannot think of anybody else but Taehyung to do a comfortable Outro that I imagine would feel like a hug (I’m crying just thinking about it). Also I imagine Taetay to have deep bass-like vocals and breathy-whispers kind of style.

Justice for George Floyd, help Minneapolis, Minnesota

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by police in my city. 

He was a 46-year old Black man, handcuffed, unarmed and complying. White police officer, Derek Chauvin, murdered Mr. Floyd.

EX officer Chauvin was arrested on May 29, 2020. He’s been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. There’s no charges yet against his accomplices, the 3 other officers that held Floyd down while Chauvin kept his knee on his neck for 9 minutes. They ignored his pleas, and the pleas from onlookers begging Chauvin to stop. 

“I can’t breathe.”

“They’re gonna kill me.”

“Mama!”

“Please—”

The Protests

There are several protests every day. Those who oppose us have run over protesters, including a semi truck. A Black Latino CNN reporter was arrested, even though he identified himself; his white co-worker not too far away was not arrested after he identified himself. This is a small sample; the incidents are endless.

Police reacted to peaceful marching with tear-gas and rubber bullets. This is in strong contrast to their reaction the other week, when heavily armed white people came to protest the covid-19 lockdown.

Opportunists have taken advantage of the crowds to loot, destroy, and cause chaos. 

This behavior is a consequence of robbing Black people of their lives. Society has been enslaving, assaulting, robbing, oppressing, and killing Black people for hundreds upon hundreds of years. Property is not as important as people. People cannot be replaced. 

On the other hand, this has moved far beyond looting and tagging stores. 

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said “We are now confronting white supremacists, members of organized crime, out of state instigators, and possibly even foreign actors to destroy and destabilize our city and our region.”

It is true and is confirmed. Groups of majority white people are strategically burning down PoC-owned businesses, libraries, groceries in food deserts, pharmacies. They’re attempting to burn apartment complexes and homes.

These people are not a part of the movement. 

I am not sleeping. I am watching. Watching my fellow Minnesotans protest, get tear-gassed, and keep getting back up to scream out George’s name.

I’m watching my community get together every day to rebuild, clean, and feed those in need. And then every night, guarding our streets from people who, again, don’t live here and do not care about George Floyd or justice.

As a Black woman in America, i’m scared. And I am not sleeping.

We spent a lot of time in the edit room playing around with the sequencing of the portals. We probably didn’t lock that section of the movie until about a month before the film was in theaters. We always wanted Sam to be the first one to communicate with Cap via his comm, and Sam was last in Wakanda, so logically the first portal that would open would the Wakandan portal. And the first person that would logically walk through a portal from Wakanda would be the king himself, bringing his army once again to the defence of Cap and the world.  – Joe Russo
