He’d thought purgatory would feel worse than this – some kind of endless torment that would break him and piece him back together just to carry on the sick cycle of repentance. Gajeel had been expecting disaster. He’d expected a battle worse than anything he’d ever experienced before. A battle with himself in a darkness blacker than the taint on his feeble soul. He expected to feel things he’d swallowed deep down inside of him again. All his pain. All his guilt. All his love. 

He didn’t feel anything anymore. 

He’d already suffered the ultimate pain when Levy’s face blinked out of existence and his whole world came to a startling end. Without her, there was nothing. Purgatory was seeing her face covered in tears. Purgatory was having to stare into those big brown eyes and witness the shattering of a heart he’d never be worthy of holding. 

I really am useless, huh?
