Me, signing Cheryl up for therapy: you’re not ruining another queer character, CW. not on my watch

Avatar

I’ve been told:

  • That I’m a ‘straight invader’,
  • That I’m ‘going through a phase’
  • That I’m ‘really gay’ and ‘suffering from internal homophobia’
  • That what happened to me ‘wasn’t conversion therapy’
  • That my identities are ‘disgusting’ and ‘a threat to children’
  • Examples of who it was a phase for to ‘prove’ it’s a phase for me as well
  • That if I don’t ‘admit’ most if not all people like me are ‘gay with internal homophobia’ gay children will hate themselves for years thinking they’re my identities instead of gay
  • That the rape and murder of gay people is my fault
  • That I ‘steal resources’ from gay people
  • That I’m lying about being sexually assaulted ‘for attention’ as my identities are ‘attention seeking’ so I shouldn’t be trusted
  • That if I go to pride I’m ‘invading’ a space that doesn’t belong to me
  • That every bit of abuse that happened to me because of my identities either ‘didn’t happen’ or ‘didn’t count’ as oppression
  • ‘Why do you want to be oppressed so badly?’

I’m talking about being bi and trans, but I see every one of these things said to ace and aro people on a daily basis.

Saw a post saying the op wanted to ‘vomit’ after seeing an ace flag at Stonewall because it’s ‘disrespectful to the gays who were beaten and oppressed there’: I have had ‘gays get beaten, bisexuals don’t because Straight Passing Privilege’ used against me, and ‘where were you at Stonewall? Off with your het partners having it easy, cowards!’

People have said the trans flag should be ‘burned’ when seeing it at rallies and tried to get the bi and trans flags removed because they ‘don’t belong’.

I’ve seen the Pulse shooting used to shame ace and aro people. I have been told due to my ‘bi privilege’ it was ‘not my tragedy to mourn’.

Bisexual contingents frequently get booed at pride parades for ‘invading gay spaces’. Visibly bi people get shouted at and told to ‘go home’. Bi and trans people perceived to be in ‘het’ relationships get told ‘get away from our pride!’

I was accused of being ‘divisive’ for planning things for Bi Visibility Day by a cis gay man who then proceeded to tell me how trans people ‘didn’t belong’ in the community. I see ace and aro people get shamed for having their own events and then told they ‘don’t belong’ in the same breath.

These are the same fucking arguments if all you do is replace bi and trans with ace and aro. And I’m not going to let that be forgotten.

it is really, really frustrating that we as a community can’t seem to move on to dealing with issues like “why are bi women more likely to experience assault and abuse and how can we stop it?” or “how can we address the mental health crisis among bi people?” because we’re stuck going in circles dealing with basic shit like “do bi people experience oppression? i, someone who’s not bi, think not” and “but the ~dictionary~ says!”

Trans femme resources

I was gathering some links for my sister and I thought folks here might find some of these useful.  Most of the links come from tumblr posts bytrans women and amab non-binary folks, and I figured they know what they’re talkinga bout!

Shoes

Zappos (it’s really easy to get shoes, try them on, and return them, they go up to size 20)

Eleanor Anukam: Luxury shoes in larger sizes

Long Tall Sally: clothes and shoes for tall ladies

Full Beauty: up to size 16

Makeup tips:

Originally, I was just looking for shoes in 15+ sizes, and makeup stuff, but I realized I had all these other links floating around too.  If anyone has some shoe advice for trans women I’d appreciate hearing about it!

Do you love the idea of a queer friendly cafe/thrift store... that also is a nonprofit organization that benefits local social justice organizations??

You came to the right post!

As part of my summer internship, I am the CEO of Fresh Out... The Closet, a queer café/thrift store run by a group of young Black people with intersectional identities! Our mission statement is on the survey posted below. It’s free to vote and each vote for us is $10 towards our capital goal (also listed below)!

If you <3 the idea of a queer friendly café artist space that doubles as a thrift store (and a 5-year plan that includes a nonprofit arm that benefits and collaborates with marginalized queer populations and Philly based social justice organizations!!), please give us a vote and/or shout us out! I would really love the opportunity to get this business off the ground and I appreciate all support! While Philly is pretty progressive, there aren’t many trans owned businesses, and we would like to change that!

Votes close August 16th! We encourage shares and reblogs!

Business Status: Profit Business Type: Café & Thrift Store Business Location: Fairmount Area Est. Capital Goal: $225,000-300,000

Apparently Tumblr is in the process of rolling out a feature that allows users to see when the people they have been messaging were last online.

Please know that I will never expect you to drop everything to answer my messages.

Please know that I understand you might only have come to Tumblr to decompress, not to talk.

Please know that I understand you have a RL that is stressful and you don’t always have the energy to respond.

Please never feel pressured into answering me just because you were “online”.

And @staff , please provide us with an opt-out solution for this.

TERFs should be kicked out from LGBT+ spaces

Reblog if you agree terfs put all trans people in danger and shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near LGBT+ safe spaces or to comment on the deaths of other dear LGBT+ members of our community.

So, if you’re say a lesbian and a TERF, you get ousted from the safety of the community because you have disagreeable opinions?

You get kicked the fuck out because you dehumanize a primordial part of the LGBT+ community.

Thanks for outing yourself as TERF so I can block your nasty ass

Content note for transphobia and transmisogyny:

“Disagreeable opinions” ….?

Didn’t know “I hate trans women because they are really men who want to kill/rape real women and invade female only safe spaces” was just a disagreeable opinion but okay….

Look if you don’t respect trans people, you’re transphobic. You’re making the community unsafe. So why would we want you there?

I don’t care if you’re a lesbian or any other LGBT+ identity. If you hate trans people, and you spread horrible transphobia everywhere, you are transphobic and my trans ass has a right to not want you in my safe spaces.

drop the t

If by that you mean “drop tumblr user ‘thearronaut’” I will gladly do that.

Actually you’re wrong, “drop the t” means drop the terfs,

Reblog to drop the terfs

I will physically drop-kick any terf

Anonymous asked:

Question: How are you both Gay and Non-Binary? Those are mutually exclusive, you cannot be a guy who likes other guys and still be non-binary.

I’m screaming dude gay means same gender attracted and for nb people it can also mean similar gender attraction because ya know… sexuality and genders outside the binary have a complex relationship. Anyways this is invasive do some googling and learn about non-binary sexuality

the fact that all thom/as s/ anders (a bi man) had to do in order to be called cishet numerous times, have people insinuate he was homophobic for not coming out right away and “"teasing”“ his relationship with another man, and be subject to a smear campaign spreading outright lies and misinformation, was say ‘i support ace people’, is so indicative of just how conditional so many exclusionists’ acceptance of bi people is.

like soooo many exclusionists partook in the Great Bihet Discourse Of 2014, and while they won’t openly express their disdain for bi people (especially bi women tbh) any more because it doesn’t look good politically, all it takes is one bi person who they personally dislike in order for them to revert back to their ‘bi people are Straight, actually’ garbage.

their acceptance of bi people is 100% conditional and 100% based in respectability politics. see: how nice they are to bi exclusionists vs at the same time spewing explicit biphobia at bi inclusionists (and telling us we’re only welcome in the lgbt community because we face homophobia, since biphobia is Fake Oppression)

like, not Every exclusionist is like this and there are bi exclusionists, but this is a pretty fucking prominent pattern in their community and it is very rarely if ever addressed. and that’s part of the reason why even if i felt like ace people weren’t lgbt, i would never call myself an exclusionist.

i’m not gonna perform emotional labour just so that the people who hate me will deem me One Of The Good Ones… that is, until i do something they don’t like, at which point they’ll immediately fall back on calling me an evil bihet who doesn’t experience any real oppression. like, fuck that. respectability politics and conditional acceptance are useless, and im not interested in looking like A Good Bi just to temporarily dodge someone’s biphobia.
